The Headless Horseman; myth or fact?

I'm a big fan of the new movie, "Sleepy Hollow". I've heard that there are actual graves of Icabod and Katrina! So I'm wondering if the writter took these real people and put it into a story of the Headless Horseman? But I've also heard that there is some trueth to the story of the Headless Horseman? So is the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow a true story? How much of it is true and how much of it is myth? Myths have often come from facts that have been twisted by the whim of the writter. So how much of the Headless Horseman is true or is it a myth? I'd like your opinions on this subject. LillyCats

There is in the movies , segments of fiction , here they are..... 1)the whole coming from the tree bit 2)the fence thing going throught that dude 3)katrina turning out 2 be a witch there are sum more but i cant remember them
Date: 3/27/2001 9:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 16131    actually , it almost true all of the way through . The only thing is , the headless horseman came from diary entries by incabod and from other testimonial like town newspapers and such who printed these stories from incabod's point of veiw which is what the book was based on many years after Incabod's death . The rest of the story is true though but as for the headless horseman is comcerned , I have no idea but , I imagine that for someone back then to tell a story like that and risk being killed or tortured as a witch , I would say our friend Incabod was either a masocist or telling the truthe .... Take Care

Date: 3/28/2001 1:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    Well, for what it's worth, these characters were written by author Washington Irving. I do not know much about this author, but much may be learned by reasearching his works. (By Internet or Library sources) I do know that Tim Burton directed that movie, and he is a person with a great talent and imagination. He directed movies such as "Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Halloween, Batman". Just my two cents worth, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is myth.

Date: 3/28/2001 2:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 31045    I've met some people on the net that live in Sleepy Hollow and the graveyard they have there they say is really spooky, but no sign of the headless horseman. Yet, the Sleepy Hollow Police dept uses the headless horseman as their logo!!!! LillyCats
