Prologue
Rose glanced around the the vast open fields that surrounded her every move. She was out of breath, and tired of running. She had been running for 2 hours straight, and she needed to rest. But she knew if she did, they would catch her. She couldn't let that happen, her only hope was to reach the border, then they couldn't get her, she'd be safe.
Now at the waters edge, she drank in the sweet water , that refreshed her undernourished body. A sudden uneasiness washed over her, as she froze in her place. Everything was too quiet. There were no birds chirping, only the sullen crackle of the water infront of her. She heard a snap from behind her. She knew it was them. They had found her.
Quickly she sprang up, and was off running again. Now she could hear them. They were calling to her in her thoughts. "You can't get away from us" they screamed at her. She needed to get away, if only she could reach the border, they couldn't cross the border, she would be safe. Out of harms way.
Bolting through the now crowded forested area. She held back the urge to look over her shoulder, to see where they were. She could still hear their anger stricken words in her head. Her head ached , but she moved on.
Soon she saw another clearing ahead, this time the sight of rolling hills had greeted her. She had made it. To the point where they can't cross, she made it at last. As she heard their harrowing cries and screams as she crossed the invisible marker, which was held by two beautiful willow trees. She took the courage to look back. There they stood.
There were about 4 of them, sleek looking animals. majestic in their own right. They were wolf like creatures, except for one small thing. They had feet and hands just like a human. And extreme telepathic links within their ranks, and everyone around them. Their wild stares bore into her. She was the chosen one, she was the one that was supposed to make the species live.
As she took one last glance back, she watched them, and almost felt sorry for the creatures. But she knew better, she turned away from them. And ran towards the hills. She was going to a place, where no one knew where she had been and what she was.
