That really is sad:( I have been into a nursing home before and had to stop myself from crying. It was so sad to see people that can't do for themselves. |

Well, hopefully, all the Christians jumping on the bandwagon for government money for "faith-based" charities will do what is right and address this issue. Thanks for the reminder, FB. Free Girl |

I guess my mom in law is one of the lucky ones. She worked for the company I now work for, for over 20 yrs. She has been retired for 10 and is now 65 and living fairly decent. She has a large amount of money in the bank that she intends to leave for her kids and her home is paid for. She is a widow twice over and like living alone. I don't blame her. Her husband, my husbands father, was just like my husband is. She learned early on not to depend on him, much as I have had to do myself. I say that there are some out there that deserve applause for making sure that things are taken care of in their lives. But we still have to watch out for those that haven't been as fortunate. Trouble :) |

thanks all for your comments. I couldnt work in an old folks home as all I could do is cry when I went to visit my sister that worked in one. I feel so helpless. I hope your right free girl, In trouble Your mother in law should count herself blessed. I pray that these people can be helped and I pray that Pres Bush by doing what free girl has said, that these people will get more help. Its just a shame that even medical cost are so high. I think they shouldnt have to pay for any meds. |

*WAKE-UP CALL HERE*...yes yes yes, I agree, as the old saying goes, once and man, twice a child. We work hard to feed starving children, which we should, we work hard to to help others in far off lands, which we should, I wish we would work just as hard to asist those that have been the ones who have assisted us in setting our paths to where we are today. Life changes, we have new modern devices, we have more technology then carter has pills, but do we have the care for our weak, our older generation?? I am very glad you brought this up firstborn. Maybe if you could find one person in your neighborhood that was an elder and once a week made an extra amount of food when cooking super and brought it to this person, or knock on their door and introduce yourself and get to know them, they have awesome stories to tell you:-)..and offer to take them out to lunch or a dinner, or invite them over. I heard of a lady that took up a monthly collection from all the neighbors in her neighborhood just a dollar or two and gave it to this elderly man that lived in their neighborhood it helped him very very much. He was able to keep his heat, he was able to have better food. Or purhaps when going shopping buy one or two extra cans or boxes of food and help with a neighborhood collection in the month. So many ways to help out. You have to be brave in heart to give out of heart:-)..It only takes one thought to make it happen, that is the thought of love:-)..hugs |

Your right dalphina. We all have to help in any way that we can. Like giving to the food bank, and like you said cooking some meals. I thank God that where I live, one doesnt see alot of this, but when I pass by las vegas or some of the bigger cities I could just cry at those living in cardboard boxes and people, old people that can hardly walk , struggling along with a sack and other people just pass them by. We were in the middle of nowhere, at least 25 miles from a town as we were working collecting seed. We came across a man and a lady that had run out of gas, they were old, He was on oxygen. These people lived in a bigger city and was just out for a fathers day drive and going to have dinner in a small town where they use to live. Well we stopped the truck, I mean I was dirty and dusty with my jeans and headband for the sweating I was doing and mY hubby and son didnt look much better, but ya know we were working outside all day. Any way you could tell these people were scared, they needed help but was scared. I mean gosh the son and the hubby had head bands on also. LOL We told them that my hubby would take the man in to get gas as we had a gas can but it was empty. I could tell they were scared and the man said, why dont I give you the money and maybe you could bring us gas back. Well I looked at the women and looked like we might just take the money and run, so I said, why dont I sit here and visit these kind folks and you and dave go get the gas. Well about an hour or so they were back with the gas. I made friends with the man and lady and even today we write back and forth. They tried to pay us for our time, but I would not hear of it. Latter the Lady told me what a limted budget they had and had saved all month for the trip. But the point is some are scared of help, so be carefull when helping them, be sure and read their eyes. |

i too think its sad that americans dont do more to help our elderly, a 15 year old can have a baby and live on easy street, an abused wife can live in a nice shelter, but a poor old lady gets stuck in a nurseing home. and thats another story, um sad eet |

Okay so how is this one for ya my grandfather worked everyday of his life from the age of 9 until he had prostate cancer about 5 years ago and he stopped working. Between him and grandmother they get $1000 a month. Thier electric bill is $500. So they have really have $500 a month to pay thier life insurance. prescriptions, cable, food, and car insurance. Which reminds me I need to go down to the welfare office to pick up an application for them for Heap, which is a program that will pay a portion of your electric bill based on your income. Now mind you that $500 that they pay for thier electric bill is on a budget plan. If they were not a on budget plan they would be in deep trouble. I know that I pay $279 a month on the budget plan for my electric and heat and without my plan by bill is almost $700 a month. So there's has to be at least $1000 a month. That is thier whole check!!!!!!.......Azairyia |
