THE SOULLESS: WHY KIDS KILL

THURSDAY MARCH 29 2001 The soulless society: Why kids kill

By T. Landon Pepper © 2001 WorldNetDaily.com Shots have once again rung out in the halls of our nation's schools. And, as in the previous tragedies, America has futilely searched for the cause of these depraved actions. The left demands harsher gun laws; the right desires regulations on violent entertainment. However, it seems that all the solutions the pundits propose lack a coherent understanding of the actual root of this behavior. The dead have been buried and Americans have moved on to other news, but the question still lingers: Why do kids kill? The reason cannot be reduced to mere slogans, formulas, or even legislation. No, evil is much more complex than that. The principles of biblical morality, aptly labeled "the Judeo-Christian ethic," served as the foundation of Western civilization, and America in particular. It was this ethic that resulted in the political liberation of millions of inhabitants of the Western world. It was this thread that held the American fabric together for generations. But the social engineers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries laid the foundation for a different kind of society. Darwin showed us that God was unnecessary. Nietzsche declared that He was dead. Freud taught us how to cope without Him. They erected an intellectual Tower of Babel built upon the Enlightenment ideology of the deification of man and the defiance of God. And without God, the stable social order we once enjoyed began to unravel. The chief indicator of America's moral depravity has been its progressive disregard for the sanctity of human life. While abortion and euthanasia are the most obvious manifestations of this ethical erosion, the problem is entrenched much deeper. The fundamental concept of individuals being made "in the image of God" has been abandoned, and people are subsequently viewed as nothing more than expendable natural resources. This mindset has permeated our culture and has been assimilated by America's youth. If women can "choose" to kill their unborn children, what prevents an angry, rejected teen-ager from "choosing" to terminate the life of a classmate? The line between right and wrong is nebulous in our culture. The entertainment industry has capitalized on America's sensationalistic lust and has glorified death and destruction. The media feeds the desensitizing messages of suicide and murder to unbalanced young people, and then society is surprised when these kids act on their violent impulses. However, the problem is much more serious than a cultural flirtation with the immoral; it is the inability of Americans to differentiate between good and evil. Unbalanced children are usually neglected children, either physically or emotionally. Many kids have been raised by strangers while their parents pursue careers with reckless abandon. These young people have learned America's postmodern mantra firsthand: Money is more important than morality. And the results are evident in Jonesboro, in Littleton, and in Santee. Middle-class kids left to their own devices are every bit as dangerous as destitute youths involved in gang activity. The tower of Darwin, Nietzsche and Freud is fracturing one home at a time. School violence and the other ills plaguing our country are simply the symptoms of a sick society. America, and Western civilization as a whole, is on the verge of self-destruction. School shootings are merely a testament to this reality. C.S. Lewis observed in "The Abolition of Man": We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful. The ideas of Darwin, Nietzsche, and Freud have produced devastating results in our culture. Kids will continue to kill until America returns to the original Architect of humanity, whose laws were once etched on the souls of our nation's youth.

Hi guys. Here's someone that I agree with, as has been stated in some of the recent debates. Let's dance. King, she mentions C.S.

Date: 3/30/2001 12:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 23610    Hiya Free Girl...I will agree that a lot of the problems in society are due to the break up of the family unit and the lack of love and attention to children from their parents. We do live in a fast paced society...where it is practically expected that both parents work...and in most cases is economically essential. This is where I believe most of the ills of our society lie. However, I can't agree on the religious aspect of it. First of all it is a generalization to think that these children have no religious background. Also, if this were due to the lack of Judeochristian values...then there would be school killings in other countries that do not practice the christian faith. Morals and values do not only come from being a christian....you can be a non-religious person and still have values. So I won't put this responsibilty on the lack of christian values....So I guess I am saying I half agree with you. But it sounds presumptuous to say that school killings are caused by a lack of christian values. It is insulting to all other religious or non-religious beliefs....as if they could not know the difference between right and wrong. -Lady Nyx
Date: 3/30/2001 2:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 28010    I don't think I would call these children souless.I see them as being detatched children, they did not attatch to any one person as an infant, because of the family breakdown that has occurred in the past twenty-years.When a child is taken to a sitter from birth and there is no consistancy in their lives,as far as morals and rules, they are raised very confused. They find bits and pieces of personalities, that they have learned from strangers, that has not been programed in their brains and they become lost and confused,as well as the parents do not even know or understand their own child because of this problem.A child is born of the MOTHER and FATHER,NOT THE NEIGHBOR.
Date: 3/30/2001 7:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 21897    I don't think I agree with the "abortion and euthanasia are the most obvious manifestations of this ethical erosion." I'm not sure what is so bad about euthanasia. I mean- I refuse to get in another debate about abortion, so I'm not going to address that- but euthanasia? I don't get it. -Starfly*
Date: 3/30/2001 7:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27678    Well, as we've all been over and over this issue, I'll just let this stand as is. Lady Nyx, while I also half-agree with you, there's only one point I'd like to make. If, indeed, due to the need to keep religion out of schools, we don't offer anything for fear of hurting someones' feelings and if children are not being guided by parents of Christian or other religious beliefs, then what do we do with those children who are obviously not getting any moral guidance anywhere? Do we continue to be victims for them? Why doesn't the ACLU feel that even simple rules like don't kill, don't steal, don't lie that have nothing to do with God/gods/goddesses or any other belief, should be taught? Seems to me we need to come to some kind of understanding or else we will see these problems escalate. We shouldn't be getting numb to kids shooting one another. And this is happening. As a Christian, I just feel that if something worked in the past, then what harm can it do to do things the old way. And the present way isn't working. So what is the answer?
