Yo, As my honey Thunderhead pointed out...it all takes manpower to do this. There are definitely Word Recognition Systems that basically filter electronic data, searching for keywords such as 'bomb' or 'assassinate' etc. If that data contains any of the listed keywords, then that stream is flagged for closer inspection. But those inspections are done by someone...not a computer - which takes time. So unless you have already created some suspicion, your emails etc aren't seriously scrutinised. Peace, AGENT SMITH  |

I agree to some degree, because it would take a long time to check everything...but I was thinking that maybe they have certain words that they look for, and they can find them, and then they find the convos that are interesting to them.  |

I'm afraid FreeGirl has hit the nail on the head. Echelon was set up some years ago between the NSA, GCHQ (UK), Canada and a couple of sites in Australia and New Zealand. Basically between Forte Meade, GCHQ and the very secretive 560 acre Menwith Hill site in Yorkshire England (a 'RAF' site where the NSA hang out) can listen and read everything that goes over the phone or airwaves. Basically, Echelon 'listens' for particular words that are tagged, you say/write one of these words and its looked into. As with all things like this I guess, you have nothing to worry about unless you plan to do something wrong - but there's a fine line. The French Intelligence boys seem very adept at passing info on to the right people to promote their industry, and give them a competitive advantage... The Silent Knight  |
