He was born in Florence Crittendon Home for Unwed mothers,in Norfolk, Viginia, sometime during 1944. His mother says that he was here for D-Day. That would be June 6, 1944. He lived in St. Mary's infant home in Norfolk for about 2 years; he was adopted out at the time through the Portsmouth, Virgina Department of Social Services. Howard Paul was born during a time when it was a disgrace for a woman to have a child out of wedlock. It was disgrace the family name. Ernestine, who was about 17 years old at the time, couldnt take Howard Paul home with her. Her family didnt have much, but their good name. Neither of her 2 brothers knew about this disgrace at the time. She believes that the brother who died a few years ago, never did know. Howard's birth father was a navy pilot who was stationed aboard an aircraft carrier. Ernestine followed him to California but eventually came back to Portsmouth. When she found out that she was pregnant, she spoke on the phone to someone who was doing the talking for Howard Paul Sr. She was told that he was already married with children. The man she spoke to asked her if she wanted to ruin his career. Ernestine's mother would catch a bus to Norfolk weekly to go visit while she was carrying Howard Paul. No one questioned these weekly trips that her mother made. After Howard was born, Ernestine spent time with him. She once took him on a trip with her to visit her best friend. Howard's father sent her a few checks to live on while she was there. Not knowing when the checks would stop coming, Ernestine gave Howard Paul up for adoption. This decision has haunted Ernestine. She wanted Howard Paul to have more than she could give him at that time. This decision she has regretted so many times. I am his birth sister. I didnt find out about him until I was 19. I have thought about him so many times. Please if any of these details sound familiar, please contact me at Married3x@aol.com. Please.
