Manda knew she had to get control of herself. She couldn't sit around crying, she had to take some action. She knew that deciding to come to the woods at all was a serious mistake, one she might lose her life over. She wished she could turn back time and still be at home in bed, but there was nothing she could do. She was alone in the woods with a horrible creature that was tracking her down, she was sure. She could almost feel it's presence.
"Maybe I should climb up a tree," she thought to herself. She had no idea what this creature's ability to climb, or do anything, but she knew she couldn't run all night long. She could already feel her heart, lungs, and muscles about to give out. Her legs kept cramping up and she was having difficulty breathing. Sleep was closing in on her. She had to stay awake, she had to find a tree...something to get her through the night. Maybe through the day. She rememered her knapsack just then and reached back to grab it. The walkie talkie could save her. But the sack was gone. She had left it in the clearing. There was no hope of calling someone to help now. Tears welled in her eyes once again.
"I'm going to die here," she thought. She almost gave up, till she saw the tree. It was the perfect type for climbing, and it was close by. She ran to it and started to climb. She decided she would have to stay there till dawn. She climbed as high as she could without her legs and chest becoming to pained and she settled herself into two branches. Intent on listening, she slowly drifted off to sleep.
The thing could no longer sense the human. It had to be more than a mile away. The thing was getting nervous and anxious because day would be coming fast. It moved slowly, searching. It smelled the ground, finding the humans scent. It had headed west. The thing slowly started to move after it.
