Gay Equality..should they be treated equally? I think so..tell me what you think..   Author:  16916  Category:(Debate) Created:(6/25/2001 10:54:00 PM) This post has been Viewed (2411 times) One of my teachers asked me to write a speech about something I strongly beleive in I thought I would share with everyone here..feel free to comment..:) I know this is really long..but it is worth reading please read it all :) GAY, FAGGOT, HOMO, FUDGEPACKER, FLAMER, These are just some of the discriminatory names used in everyday society against Homosexuals. Why? What have homosexuals done? Because they are different that makes them wrong? Everyone is different in one way or another. Some people dress differently, they are accepted in most ways. Most homosexuals should be given credit because they have a very rough life. They have more worries than an everyday teen. Questions like “Will I ever be accepted?” “If I told my parents would they hate me?” “Will my family brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles accept me for who I am?”. Teen homosexuals are constantly asking themselves these questions. Did you know that 1 out of 3 teens that are suicidal are either gay or unsure about there sexual preference? Why do people shy at differences? Some people think that homosexuality is disgusting, what if we lived in a society where homosexuality was more accepted than heterosexuality? And heterosexuality was frowned on? Would you change to fit society? Why should they change just because people don’t like it? Did you ever think that maybe they don’t like you..Or your sexuality? But they have to they are forced to by society. But any given heterosexual can hate, discriminate and belittle homosexuals to the greatest extent. Again the question is asked..WHY? But will it ever be answered? Most people of the Christian Religion frown on homosexuality because it is stated in the bible that homosexuality shouldn’t happen. And that it is a sin. But aren’t we all sinners? There are much worse sins than homosexuality. And if you want to get technical 80% of people in the homosexual preference are Christian and go to church regularly. And keep the same faith as most followers of the Christian Religion. Did you know that one of the greatest and most renowned artists in human history was a confirmed homosexual, without Michael Angelo. We wouldn’t have the Statue of David, he painted the Sisten Chapel and without him the Sistine Chapel would not be the beautiful building that it is now he inspired many artist to be what they are today. Also one of the most loved actresses Rosie O’Donnel is a confirmed homosexual, she is a very giving loving person, she is very involved in charity and has an undeniable love for homeless and beaten children. Why are people so hateful? Hate crimes are constantly being acted on in every country in the world. Even on T.V shows one example of this is The T.V. Show All In The Family a 70’s sitcom, my mom was telling me how one of the shows was about hate crimes against homosexuality, the guy in the show was mugged while walking down a New York street he was with a homosexual friend, the man was let free and the homosexual was beaten to death. So many people are against murder and hate crimes but yet the same people are against homosexuality or are racist in a different way. That is being very hypocritical. Some people have acted out like myself and have done a lot for the homosexual society and they should be commended greatly for there actions. Take the Stonewall Act of 1969 for example, On a hot summer night Homosexual Activist were having a meeting when a squadron of police officers barged in planning on arresting the homosexuals for doing what was than an illegal act. When one of the activists took a garbage can and through it through the cop car window, since then that symbol of gay equality has been remembered and honored. More people should act out and tell people how they feel about this situation, it would be more socially accepted. Some people are afraid to tell how they feel about homosexuality because of what people might think. But why does it matter what people think, when It all comes down to it, if you cut them do they not bleed red like everyone else? Homosexuals aren’t asking for Supremity they are only asking for what every American Citizen deserves, EQUALITY. Gay marriages should be legalized in the United States, Not letting homosexuals engage in marriage should be considered infringing on the rights of homosexuals. The arguments that are against same sex marriages are wrong..as I have explained already why cant they have the right to act and do the same things as any everyday heterosexual human being. Take this for example, If a homosexual couple get into a car accident and one is badly hurt even If they have been together for 50 years the uninjured partner cannot sign for emergency surgery or for there partner to be taken off life support, also if the injured partner is in an intensive care unit the uninjured partner is not permitted to see the injured partner because they are not considered “Immediate Family.” So if your partner was dying and surgery would save there life and you had no way of getting a hold of there next of kin your partner would die. Some people would say that “Marriage is based on having children.” What if a couple cannot have children, they still can get married right? Children from homosexual relationships are very adjusted and they are happy within themselves, if your going to say that homosexuals shouldn’t have children because they will be teased about it, then I am going to argue back with every kid is teased at least once for one reason or another. That would be the parents fault for not raising them to not tease other people for being different. Kids will be kids. Kids are cruel human beings they learn from there mistakes. They also should be taught at an early age that if people are different that they deserve to be accepted just as much as the next kid. What this all boils down to is that all homosexual, heterosexual, and bisexual human beings should be accounted for and treated with respect.
