December 31, 1986 I had spent the day with my grandmother viewing pictures of the family. As we looked at the photos we came across several of my cousin whom I was very close to. I remember telling my grandmother that Kris was a very pretty girl and correcting myself to say she is a very pretty girl. That evening my father came to pick me up to go to my stepmom's family gathering. When I got in the car he told me that my cousin Kris was missing. I told him that she was not alive, I could just since it. As soon as we got to our house there was a call from my uncle asking my father to meet him at the police station. After arguing with my father that I was old enough at 14 to go with him, we went to the police station to find that my cousin had been found murdered. My other cousin Mike, Kris's brother, was there also. The police wanted to knnow if we had any idea of who would do such a horrible thing of murdering a 16 year old girl. I did not know a lot of my cousins frie! nds, but Mike and I looked at each other and at the same time said, 'Danny did it.' Of course we had no proof.. just this strange feeling. The police investigated every lead. In the end the truth came out. Danny and his brother had commited the crime. Until her killers had been caught, it felt almost like she was there asking for us to avenge her death. A lot of people thought that it was I that had been killed, since my cousin and I looked so much alike, but a piece of me did die with her. At the killers trial, I was sitting right where Danny could see me, his mouth dropped at the resemblence of her. I believe that I did help convict these men. After the trials were over, I felt her hug me as if to say goodbye. A lot of people do not believe in the afterlife. But I for one am and always will be. How it changed my life:I feel as though my cousin is proud of her family for avenging her death.
