The answer came to me in the form of an Angel

My grandfather and I have always been very close. As a child, I grew up with him living next door to me and he became a very large part of my life. The house that he lived in, was the house that he was born in and it was built centuries earlier by his grandparents. When I was young, I always felt very aware of things around me almost as though I was never really alone. It wasn't a scary feeling, just a peculiar one that I could never quite get over. That house I later learned holds a lot of my family's history in it. There were countless strange happenings, births and deaths in that house. I was told not to be afraid though because if there was something in the house besides us it would never hurt us because it was a relative. My grandfather often said this to me with a smile. A year ago this Halloween, he passed away at his home after many years of illness. He eventually died of congestive heart faliure brought on by his illnesses. His mother also died on Halloween in! the very same house (not that I am supperstitious or anything). Anyway, even though he had been sick for a long time you are never quite ready to lose someone you love. Like I said we were very close. He and my Father gave me away at my wedding. We had dinner together almost every Sunday even after I grew up, married and moved away. One of our favorite things to do together was to make a big bowl of popcorn and sit down to watch Unsolved Mysteries. That was a favorite show of ours, and he rarely ever missed it. I was feeling particularly lonely for him one day and I sat to watch some tv and get my mind off it, and I found Unsolved Mysteries on. It was a repeat, but I sat and watched it anyway. One story was about a man and woman who had tragically lost their teenage son. It was May, and they found angels from their Christmas decorations mysteriously lying around their home as if they were placed there for them to find and feel comfort that their son was still around them. I s! aid to myself outloud,' I wish that I had a sign that you were still with me too Grandpa'. It was several days later and I had forgotten about it. It was Spring and the snow and ice had begun to melt, so the children and I had bundled up and went outside to see if any of our flowers were coming up. As I knelt down in the soft ground beneath me, something shiny caught my eye. It was burried partly in the mud. I picked it up and rubbed it between my fingers. It was an angel from our tree decorations. It is about an inch high made of gold painted metal and I knew instantly that it had been put there by granpa for me to find as a reminder that he was still with me even in death.

How it changed my life:

I truly belive that those we love never really leave us.
