Ghostly Golf

Summer is a very busy time for me. My friends and I play golf often, sometimes 3-4 times per week. In July of 1998, I met a man on a golf course that we play frequently. This man was very distinguished looking. During our golf game he went on to explain that he lived in a very old but amazingly restored area of Rockford, Illinois that he and his neihbors are very proud of. Ironically, my wife and I had just moved into that area just days before, so we exchanged stories about our homes's histories. According to this man, his house was built in by a doctor who practiced in Rockford for 50 years. I was very intrigued by his description of his home as it was a designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. After 17 holes of golf and approaching the eighteenth tee box he invited me to his home for lunch following golf. I was obviously going that way anyway so accepted his pleasant offer. When we were done golfing the man wrote down his address, which was three houses away from m! ine. As a matter of fact I could see the entire second floor of his brick two story home from my kitchen window. We had planned on meeting there at 1:00 that afternoon. When I arrived home I took a shower and cleaned up and thought I would walk over to man's home from my back alley. I had not met any of my neihbors before this day so I being out gave me a chance to say hello to a few people on my way. As I walked around to the front of the man's home and approached the front door I noticed the beautiful home's architecture. It was just as the man had described. When I rang the door bell a young man about my age (about 30 or so) came to the door. When he looked at me he just stood there. He finally asked, 'What can I do for you?' I replied , 'I am here to see Warren. He should be expecting me.' I could tell the man was very confused. He then told me that HE was Warren and that he has never seen me before. At that point I was embarrassed and confused, I could not tell which. I then explained to 'Warren' who I was and that I lived three houses away. He let me in and we sat down in his living room, which as gorgeously decorated and restored to its early 20th century design. When I looked up at his mantel, I saw a picture of an old man holding a baby standing in front of what appeared to be the very house we were sitting in. From the quality of the photograph it looked like it was taken in the late 1960's. As is looked at it closer I noticed that the man in the picture was Warren, that man I had played golf with just an hour before! I immediately asked Warren who that man was. He went on to explain it was his grandfather, whose name was also Warren. He then told me that his grandfather was a long time doctor in Rockford before he died in 1979. Young 'Warre! n' had then told me that the baby in the photograph was him which his grandmother had taken of them. As chills crawled up my spine, I asked Warren if his grandfather played golf. It was then he got out some pictures of his grandfather and his golf awards. It turned out that Dr. Warren was a Rockford City Golf Champion in the 1960's. Exactly 30 years TO THE DAY he had won the Men's Rockford City Golf tournament on the VERY COURSE WE HAD JUST GOT DONE PLAYING ON! When I looked at a photgraph I noticed that Warren was wearing the EXACT SAME SHIRT AND PANTS that he wore with me on the golf course. I had played golf with a ghost!
