"Believe in me" what did Jesus mean?

  Author:  101  Category:(Religious) Created:(7/22/2001 8:47:00 PM)

These are my feeling and thoughts, I don't pretend that these are the normal accepted interpretations of the bible.

Faith vs Works, Believe in me verses Deeds.

Jesus said "believe in me". I think he meant believe in what I teach and what I demonstrate, Love. When you have compassion and love in your heart you will be doing good loving, kind, compassionate things for people.

Try to imaging what he was trying to teach us. I believe that he faced the same obstacles we face today, you can only teach love though example, you can't make a person feel love. Think about when mothers tell their children, say thank you or say your sorry, and the child does. You can give the example, but you can't make the child feel the thanks or sorrow.

Well that's what he faced. That's why there are so many examples and parables.

I remember my father was in the news papers for running to save a man that had been in an semi-truck accident and the truck was in flames, while bystanders watched, he saved the driver. I asked him why he did it, he said "it was in my heart".

He risked everything for a man he didn't even know, because he felt compassion for that man and he couldn't bear to feel the pain of not helping. In his heart, he was compelled to do this with joy and love.

This might seem quite contrary to popular belief but, I believe that, if you desire, seek and work hard for your salvation and a place in heaven then you probably will never reach your destination, only when you are willing to sacrifice yourself, through compassion and love, regardless of the consequences (like Jesus) will you deserve such rewards.

I justify my belief by thinking about what would make sense,

1. Do good things for people and not love doing them? 2. Believe in Jesus but don't love as he loved and don't help your neighbors.

Those options just don't make any sense to me.

The incredibly sad part of this is that, for those that feel the compassion and love the message Jesus sent us is undeniably easy to understand. The rest have to try and decipher the examples like some kind of blue-print, diagram or map, that they will spend their precious lives trying to follow and become wrapped up in the dialog and wording and never find the meaning.

Halloween is Right around the corner.. .

Date: 7/22/2001 12:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 14182    you know what admin...i felt the same way about that...
Date: 7/22/2001 12:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 31045    Well put. A person can do all kinds of good deeds to others, but when it comes to you Dad's story, that was really great. He acted in accordance to his heart. He didn't think about it for a single moment and just acted upon it.
Jesus said "Believe in Me" but he also said, "If you can not believe in me, then believe in the work I do". LillyCats
Date: 7/22/2001 12:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 34912    It's true... When you're connected with Christ and believe in what he said and did, you will become more like him. It's just a natural process that takes place and all the theological intricasies that a few people let themselves get wrapped up in become so simple. ~PacificSoul~
Date: 7/22/2001 1:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 36967    That means to put trust in Christ alone for salvation.
Date: 7/22/2001 1:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 23610    Exactly! Well put! I too have always believed that Jesus meant to believe his message...which was to love one another. That is the path. Adding all these other complications only confuses or loses the message.
Date: 7/22/2001 2:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Hi Rad..This is an excellent post..It is obvious that Jesus gave so many examples so that we would "follow Him"..His teachings were given so that we could "follow Him"..When He says that we must believe in Him,this doesn't simply mean that we are to believe He is,but we must also do as He teaches..Sincerely Rusure
Date: 7/22/2001 2:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 30229    Great Post, Radman, I totally agree with the part of believing in His WORKS!! Wouldnt the world be awesome if everyone did? That would totally wipe out heinous crimes against nature. Thanks for sharing, made MY day
Date: 7/22/2001 2:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 33925    this is a wonderful story..I believe that so many people spend so much time trying to look like they are doing the right things that they lose track of what they are supposed to be doing..You are right, all things should be done out of love and faith..not because you think that it looks good...the Lord sees our hearts and our souls and he can see when a person's faith is genuine. Thank you for sharing this with us, and I would sure like to have a little window into your soul...I have a strong feeling that it is beautiful! xoxo
Date: 7/22/2001 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 31531    Very well put.Love and kindness is the answer. Thanks for such a good story>>HuGs<>>>Kasti<>>>
Date: 7/22/2001 2:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 3395    Lovely post, Radman. There exisit those whom believe but never grow in spirit and then there also exists those who believe that are filled daily and seek to be what God has planned for his/her life.
Date: 7/22/2001 2:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 31376    He meant believe in him, DEvil-Trouble....
Date: 7/22/2001 3:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 15621    I agree that we need to love and have compassion as you show and say...We also need to put our faith where it belongs...In Jesus, and repent and Ask the lord to forgive us .....then and only then will we be actualy believeing in Him...because he say's to repent and have faith
Good post
Date: 7/22/2001 3:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 3642    I agree alot of time we are so self consummed , with our own Ideas and importants we forget To Just Love
Date: 7/22/2001 3:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 27534    I appreciate your post...... Once again...I say I cannot be all things to all people.....I am a sinner......but believing in Christ.....knowing God forgives and gave his son is my comfort....it does not leave me idle......it only reinforces that God is Love.....and it can be shown through me when I allow more of Christ with in me...... A great post.....thanks.
Date: 7/22/2001 3:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 13952    great post...reminds me of 1 cor13: 1-13 love is
the greatest of all things....no matter what you do if it is not done with love it is like the clashing of brass.........again great post...knh...aka....jim
Date: 7/22/2001 4:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 24845    I agree with you totally. I think He meant it figurativly and literaly. It would be pointless, like you said, to do good things for the "fame" of it. But at the same time, if you do things with your heart is involved, I think there is a place in heaven for those that do that. I agree with you.
Date: 7/22/2001 5:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 15033    AMEN To this Radman, so well said. We all miss the meaning when looking too close. It becomes mental. Love,
Date: 7/22/2001 6:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 30743    Very well said! This reminds me of the phrase...unless you become as a child...a child loves and does with a whole, glad heart, unlike adults who do because it is expected of them or because it will bring respect or liking from peers. A lot of things an adult does are extensions of...if I do this, will it gain ME anything. A child's view...I'll do this because it will make her/him happy. Not expecting to gain anything, just because. Thanks for sharing your views, I believe the same way!
Date: 7/22/2001 6:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 31045    Well said MonkeyLuvr, We often try to do the right thing but ask ourselves what will we get for our good deeds. It's so simple, do what your heart commands and there will be your reward too.
Date: 7/22/2001 6:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 1631    AMEN to that, ADMIN!!!!! This is getting bookmarked...
Date: 7/22/2001 7:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 28946    Great Post!!! I agree with all you said. It like some can talk the talk but are you really walking the walk? I will always be learning from Jesus and want to do what is right but I make so many mistakes. I seen those that were supposed to be wicked and evil give up their last dollar to help out someone. And I've seen those trying to pretend they are good, turn their backs on the needy if nobody was looking. You are right about it has to do with feeling love for people naturally like Jesus did. Even when his deciples turned their backs on him and the Roman soliers mocked our Lord, he didn't use His Power to hurt them back. Thank you for this post. (HUGS)
Date: 7/22/2001 9:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 3835    You know my beliefs. What I believe here is that we are not so much different in heart, just by the name of the Understanding is all.... I liked this post very much, and what you have written is very true indeed! You always have great posts and I chant (pray) that you never stop posting these, as I for one, look for them! (-:
Date: 7/22/2001 10:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 36458    hmm it has alot of depth....Kuja
Date: 7/23/2001 5:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 16931    Great post!I totally agree...
Date: 7/23/2001 5:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 31045    That's a good point Penny, Some people can talk the talk, but are they walking the walk? It reminds me of one of the Long John Silver films, the one where this Scottish Captain quotes the Bible alot and then goes against his promise to the boy that he wouldn't hurt Silver, because Silver was going to mutiney. The boy was shocked because he quotes the Bible and didn't keep his word. Long John Silver then said to the boy, "Those that quote the Bible has less Bible in them then those who don't." So the character is talking the talk but is not walking the walk!
Date: 7/23/2001 6:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 19092    Beautiful post, your right, it's a very simple concept or formula. When we try to intellectualize God we loose site of His message. I like what Thunder added, "We all miss the meaning when looking too close, It becomes mental." It's not meant to be "mental" or "physical" it's suppose to be SPIRITUAL.
Date: 7/23/2001 9:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 3648    I love this post, and I have to agree with what you said here. I once saw a accident happen right in front of me. A lady drove her car into a (grass) mower at 65 mph, on a highway. Not one person was willing to go to her car, I knew I had to be the one, once getting there she had been knocked out but woke when I touch her to see if she was still breathing, after she opened her eyes, she asked me to stay..well I had to leave cause of the blood, need something to apply to it so she would not bleed to death. Everyone kept asking why I did what I did, and I would reply with GOD says we need to be there in other's time of need, I didn't want that lady to die alone, I wanted her know I cared and I was there. I prayed that GOD would save the this lady cause she had a daughter and you know what GOD did save her. I had to ask myself what would Jesus do and I got my answer with what I did....sorry to be so longed typed here lol.... but I had to say something. So I go where my heart takes me cause I know GOD talks to me with it.
Date: 7/23/2001 10:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 12835    I believe that those who believe will begin to walk the walk and shine as a beacon on the hill. Although we should still remember that we are still human and are not even close to perfection, we will fail sometimes. It's when we grow from our mistakes then we are truely on the correct path that Jesus walked....
Date: 7/24/2001 4:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 11211    Good deeds done, without the love from your heart, doesn't give you a feeling of satisfaction, and warmth. When it comes freely without a second thought...it is the most wonderful feeling in the world. You don't desire to have a pat on the shoulder from anything done out of love, but the warmth and the thought that Jesus is pleased with you...is enough. It's not always easy...especially to someone who might be an enemy, or just seems like they are out to get you...but Jesus set the example to love our enemies to do good to them...and many times when love is shown to them, no matter how they treat you at first...then It turns around and you have a friend for life...YES...Love is wonderful.
Date: 7/24/2001 9:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 31045    Well said White Dove, act in accordance to what your heart commands, and you'll feel such joy that is rather undiscribable. LillyCats
Date: 7/26/2001 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 12862    Very well said, Admin! I totally agree with you.
I do what my heart tells me, because I know it's
God telling me to do so. I always act out of kindness
of my heart. Alot of the time I don't get back, but
I still go on doing what he tells me do. Right now,
for example, I met a lady few years younger than
me that has nothing. She is worse off then me. I
try to help her the best I can. Thanks for sharing
this Admin. Hugs and Love,
Date: 7/26/2001 11:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 24483    Radman, this is the way I feel also...I was at one time a Sunday school teacher, I was so very religious, to the place I felt I could reach out and touch God. This is when you love others, more than yourself.I still feel this same way ,even though I don't go to church, like I once did.
Thank you for your post ,as this was really very good. The Island Girl
