Death Certificate for Your Cabbage Patch Kid

  Author:  34163  Category:(Urban Legends) Created:(7/29/2001 1:20:00 PM)

Most everyone knows that Cabbage Patch Kids are "adopted" by their new owners, and the box includes a certificate.

In the 80s, an urban legend surfaced about these dolls. People claimed that if you returned a damaged doll to the factory, they would not repair it, but would send the owner a death certificate. Stories also arose that the company would also send instructions on how to give the doll a funeral! Some owners were even (supposedly) mailed a citation for child abuse if the doll was too badly damaged!

Like most urban legends, this never happened. The Urban Legends Reference Page (www.snopes.com) has traced this back to a prank played by members of a rock band.
