lice are little creepy crawly things that live in your hair and they are itchy. usually schools have head lice checks for kids cause they are heaps contagious!!  |

they are nasty little bugs that get into peoples hair. But when I was little mom always told me that lice likes to get into clean hair...so its not like a "dirty" thing -Disconnected  |

i'm not sure if that's what they are. but they are bugs and they feed off the scalp of your head. they are a pain in the neck to get rid of. they breed fast. they can cause a disease if left untreated on your scalp. they lay thousand of eggs in the hair strands. that's all i can really think of now. hope i've helped (((hugs)))  |

| Date: 8/2/2001 1:00:00 AM From Authorid: 41296 I'm a teacher and I've seen these little critters up close and personal. They are visible to the naked eye, way bigger than I thought they would be. They lay eggs on strands of hair, and suck your blood for their nourishment. They do not jump as sometimes it's said, but if you rub up against someone's hair that has them, they can crawl on you. I have been hugged by children who have them and I have yet to ever get them, but I know several teachers who have got them. They seem to like a certain hair type. I have never seen them on blondes or fine-hair. They would be harder to see on blondes, but I could see them if they were there. They also are not common in black people's hair. They seem to like the medium thickness strands better. If away from a body for 24 hours, they die. I once did an experiment with one. |

When I was little a girl I knew came to school with her eyes almost swollen shut and horrible scabs all over her head. She told me that her Grandmother had used GAS to wash the lice out of her hair. I have no doubt that it worked, but I think they have safer products nowadays...Kelly  |

Please please please, don't use gasoline to get rid of lice. A little girl had lice and her neighbor put gasoline on her hair to get rid of them. The little girl went near an open flame and the caught on fire. I believe she burned 80% of her body. There are shampoos that you can purchase to get rid of them.  |
