The few the proud, the missing

My father was a United States Marine Seargent from 1969 to roughly 1974. The accounts vary as to what happened at the time of his dissappearance. I have been told that he and another marine ran down a major while drinking and driving on base in Norfolk, VA. subsequently paralyzing the man from the neck down. However, I have been unable to verify any of this information through the marine corps or the navy. He dissapeared in the earlier part of 1974 and has never been heard from since. The only thing that the military will tell my family and I is that he is listed as A.W.O.L. He was not in any threat of being sent to Vietnam at the time of his dissapearance so dessertion would not be a valid reason for his dissapearence, as with other military personnel of the Vietnam Era. He was from most accounts a very violent and abusive man and may have suffered from alcholism. My mother had left him and returned to Kentucky with my older sister, younger brother, and myself in late! 1973. This apparently happened after a domestic altercation between my mother and father in which my father allegedly was stabbed in the stomach by my mother. While in the hospital she left him and returned to Kentucky where she would remain. By her account my father came to her new home one time after her return to Kentucky, and was never heard from again. By accounts from my fathers side of the family I have heard several different stories, mostly one contadicting the other. My fathers parents are getting old and their health is deteriorating, this has been torture on them. They would definately like to have some resolution to this whole thing. They have spent thousands of dollars and hours trying to find any kind of answer and gotten nowhere. As for my siblings and I, we were ages 4, 3 and 2 when he went missing. So although we have only flashes of memories of him we would like to know once and for all what really happened. If you all can be of any assistance we would grea! tly appreciate it!

How it changed my life:

Well, I grew up without a father and little contact with his side of the family. My mother was unable to care for us and as a result we were more or less raissed by the state of Kentucky. His name is Michael Wayne Mobley he is the oldest son of his generation. My name is Michael Conn Mobley and I am also the oldest son of my generation. We have basically lost two generations of Idenity because this unsolved mystery. The Dept. of Naval Affairs will not help us, the Headquarters of the Marine Corps will not help us. The F.B.I. will not help us. From what I am told my grandparents have made several attempts through political channels and still nothing.

Date: 10/14/1999 4:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 277    Try calling the nearest military base in your area. Have them give you the phone number for Navy Legal. They might be able to guide you and possibly give you names/numbers of who to contact. Hawk

There was a body found in tha wall of an old building recently in Quantico the man was wearing dog tags also. I know the person had been considered awol since 74. It was a murder. It may be nothing but it may be worth looking into. I'm not sure where you would look.
