Like sprinkles of pepper in autumn skies, blackened feather pound on silent wind,a murder takes flight.
Alone on a half dead tree sits a single crow. His reasons are evident. As if an unseen preditor has stalked them looking for the weak, the crow sits, eyes peeled, waiting for the slightest movement or sound.
A gaurdian,a watcher,a warrior,he was choosen from several other crows in the roost. All of his knowledge, wisdom and courage was about to be put to the test.
It would happen that recently several nest had been robbed, and seven young crows had fallen prey to the local hawk.It was time the young crow put his plan into effect. So alone he sits, one wing slightly lifted,as if to appear injured,,,waiting.
Almost like clockwork the silence of the wind is interupted by the high pitched scream of the hawk, instantly the crow reacted with his own caw,a series of clicks and clatters followed,as the hawk neared, the young crow stay motionless. The swiftness of the hawk in a power dive brought him to the crow within seconds, out of time,or so it appeared, the hawk prepaired for his feast. In a split seconds decision, the young crow literally walked off the edge of the branch and dropped like a stone, only to glide away and land in a nearby tree.Upon doing this, he gave out three sharp loud caws, instantly from the surrounding trees appeared no less than nine crows, all with a vengence. The hawk now terrified attempted to fly away, but the crows with their speed and agility catch up quickly, two and three at a time they swoop, peck and scream at the hawk,as the hawk tries to get away, the crows form a tighter and tighter circle.Twenty minutes into the attack, the hawk shows signs of tire, shortly there after he falls, and the crows rejoice victor.
Like a tight nit family,a roost is no different, they too have values similar to ours, and would die to defend.
So as the families feast on their enemy,a young crow sits in a tree, alone,,,waiting.
