...I know the answer to this one! The reason that dogs do this before lying down is to make sure that no one is following them. |

My dog used to do that, and we asked our vet, and he said that before dogs were domesticated, they ran wild, and they did that to prepare their bed or where ever they are going to lay to get rid of any other animals or nuisances in their bed. If your dog scratches the floor with it's paws before it lays down, it's doing the same thing. I guess it's natural for them to do this - in their blood. |

ROTFLMAO!!!! I have always wondered the same thing. It does seem to be more of a common sight with German Shepards...wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that they are more prone to back problems and arthritis?? It is a mystery to me but it looks so silly. I kinda do that when I'm intoxicated. No, that was a lie, I definitely do that. I don't know why but it always happens hmmmm???? |

Yeah, what Kewl Girl said is right. :) Way back when when they were wild, they turned in circles to make a pile of leaves, or something, comfortable. :) *hugs* Forever, |

I was always told they do that *All dogs* to prepare their spin for the laying down position...think about it when thhey stand it's flat when they lay down it's curved... |

I think Chillibean is correct. A vet told me that when they were wild they liked to sleep in tall grasses so they couldn't be seen. They turned around in circles to clear a little space in it just their size before laying down. |
