While practicing in after school football, two of our guy's helmets rammed my son's knee while he was 'locked in' and I basically had to rush him to the hospital...he was in ALOT of pain!

I do not have insurance to provide for my son although I do know the school does...they re-emburse you, so regardless, I didn't have the money for his pain medication...he went to school the next day.

My son is in his 'senior' year...yes...he is seventeen, but still my child, ad he keeps a grade average of about 98 in every class...he desires college, a scholarship, or whatever...he has a goal to get out of poverty, and he knows education is his best shot.

Let me go back to the week before he was hurt...they ran an article in the newspaper about the linebackers of our high school and wrote three paragraphs about my son 'alone' and how great and powerful he was and what a great advantage he was to the entire team... he is 6'4" and 380 lbs...he is not 'fat' he powerlifts and brought our school... last year...to the Reginals (almost state) ...my son lifts 675lbs...last week my son was the BEST thing that the school ever had, or so that is what the coaches said, via the newspaper.

Okey, one day he is fine until after school practice, the next day, after our hospital visit in the evening hours, he is put in a leg brace and on crutches...I could not afford his pain medicine that night but was in process of getting it the next day...me son asked the teacher if he could go to the nurse...she said "NO" he told her he was in alot of pain and could he please go to the nurse...again she said "NO"....now, I remind you that my son has a 98 grade average and is not the kind of student to just want to "GET" out of class, his school record would prove this argument if an argument was needed...hummm

My son was upset that she would not allow him to go to the nurse and he argued with her about the matter, then went to the nurse anyhow...which I highly approve of, considering!!!

The teacher wrote a note to the asst principle to suspend my son...and it almost worked...my son refused it considering the teacher refused him to go to the nurse...it then becam a HUGE problem...the asst principle insisted to suspend my son and began leaving rude messages on my phone to call her immediately...I took the messages as "rude" so I went to the Principle instead so that I might get he problem cleared!

The principle told my son not to worry about a thing, that he would take care of the problem and that he should have never been denied the right to see the nurse...so of course, we thought it was "over" ...no, no, NO!

The asst principle kept giving the "coaches" a note saying that my son was suspended...they drilled him about it rudely and he told them that the principle was taking care of te problem and to not worry about it...

The "head coach" ...the same one, who said that, my son was very vital to the team the week before in the newspaper, suddenly began yelling at my son, throwing things around and told my son to take his "BIG FAT A*S "... up to suspension...

I am a single parent, and I have been a single parent since my son was 6 months old...my son looked up to the very coach...who told him these horrible, Horrible Words!!!

So apparently, the principle didn't take care of the problem to begin with, or I am sure this never would have happened!

When my son came home for lunch, and he told me what was said to him by the coach....he was in tears....and then I cried....my son does not want to ever play football again and to top it all off...in my son's senior year of school...he wants to "QUIT" and never go back again....go figure!!!!!

We want to keep kids in school...we do *NOT* want them to come to school and "shoot" the stuff out of everyone....and "WE" all "WONDER" why.....beats me,......?

...he can always apply for a student loan...?

...(((( WHATEVER >) ...

...so tell me...how do I get my... "BIG FAT A*S SON" ...back in school...?

Date: 10/5/2001 9:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    OMG that JERK! I freakin hate teachers like that! You know, they think they rule the whole God forsaken school! Your son had NO reason to be treated like that! I'd go and punch that stupid coach in the face! He can probably get in big trouble for saying that to your son! My nurse is like that teacher. One time I had a 103 temp and she kept me in school for spite! (It's a long story) I'm sorry for the treatment of your son. All of the teachers/principals/coaches involved should be fired!
Date: 10/5/2001 9:24:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37433    EXACTLY....what type of lawyer do I look for....?
Date: 10/5/2001 9:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37433    SENIOR YEAR ....and MY son wants to QUIT now...!!!!!! Gheeze.....what do I say....? What do I do....????
Date: 10/5/2001 9:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37433    trust me....if I were able to KICK his A**.....I would have!!!!!!!
Date: 10/5/2001 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 38726    I also attended a very "Sports orientated "High school.Once a star player was injured, he or she was of no use anymore. And the teachers and coaches treated them like dirt, as well as the school hardly ever payed back to kids that were hurt with little insurance if any.I am talking from personal experience.I could of been your son 12 years ago.I was a starting catcher,in 10th grade for one of New York States best softball teams, I was hurt during a practice, and ruined my knee for life.I lost any possibility for a scholarship, and my "Great"coaches forgot who I was in a week.I too quit high school because of this. Please encourage your son not to quit school.I know it was the worst mistake of my life.I let those ignorant adults ruin my self esteem, and eventually, I figured they were right,I was useless.Don't let your son get any deeper into a depression, stand by him, but push him into going back and proving them wrong.Get a lawyer,a small claims one,and bring a lawsuit against the school, escpially for denying your son the right for medical attention. And secondly, for slander. You don't need money upfront for most of these personal small claims lawyers. Also petition the school board, and call that newspaper that printed the story about your son, let them know what is going on,and explain what has happened.I wish I could tell you more, but please, encourage him to not drop out, they are not worth it.Rnbowpride7
Date: 10/5/2001 9:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    Your son should keep on playing! But until he's able to get back on the field and the team is suffering without him, let's all laugh at the coach. Stupid jerk...
Date: 10/5/2001 9:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 43186    You do what I had to do many years back in a not so similiar case, but the same type results..you contact the commissioner of education for your son's school....doors will fly open and heads will fall then...good luck, Pammierose
Date: 10/5/2001 9:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37433    The doctor we went too said he could not play until he gets a MRI test, which isn't due till next week........the school sent him, with out my permission, to their OWN doctor.... that said he could play.....I protested....and that was when ALL the hell started.....????? who do I call....????? I am in north TEXAS....does anyone know...?????
Date: 10/5/2001 10:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 37433    I contacted the supervisor of the principle....but even though she was ANGRY at what I had told her.....she still hasn't done a thing because my son tried to go back to school today....an he saw three coaches....not the one who said what he said....but they looked at my son straigh on...ten immediately looked away.....my son came home again....in tears.....and refuses to go back.....I am at a loss of words here!!!!!
Date: 10/5/2001 10:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    That's it! I say press charges. Your son is attending his school to learn and get a good education.. not be belitted by jerk coaches and teachers.
Date: 10/5/2001 11:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 43186    Call the school and ask them who the Commissioner of Education is and ask for the address and phone number and either write or call them...pammie
Date: 10/5/2001 11:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 43186    Oh and please keep us updated on this story, I for one am very interested in hearing the outcome..Huggs, Pammie
Date: 10/6/2001 3:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    Well, I would say that armed with what you just wrote to us, (plus your replies) and the reply of rainbowpride7 Author 38726, and the newspaper article, that you should get a lawyer and real quick... I dont think this is a matter for small claims either... go to federal court, because schools have federal funding... I hope and pray that your son gets back in school... and those idiots who call themselves adult teachers/coaches come to their senses!!!! And they sent your son to a doctor WITHOUT your permission??????? OMG, you definitely have a major grip there too!!!! Good luck, and please keep us posted...
Date: 10/6/2001 5:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 21867    Yo,
Yep...sue their butts. And tell your son to throw his anger into the game...tell him to get back out there on the field and completely smash everyone in his way, crunch and crush people in front of that coach...pick them up and drop their bruised bodies in front of that coach...let that coach know that if he mouths off at him again he'll be laying down next to the people your son just sacked. Opps...sorry...I used to play Rugby at school and had the same kinda issues...I simply went out there and took my rage out on the opposition players...its legal that way and you can hurt as many people as you like and get away with it *smile*. Peace,

Date: 10/6/2001 9:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 38143    call the news paper that wrote the article!!!!!
Date: 10/6/2001 1:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 31255    That's terrible. Sounds like you got a lot of people who don't know how to do their job. I would be very upset to, but your son shouldn't let them win... and leaving would just do that. He should finish out and make sure when he is done and graduated that he gives them all a piece of his mind! This is ridiculous. I don't know what you can do... have you talked with the school board about it? This is just awful. Im so sorry to hear this. *hugs*
