I'm on my high school's swim/dive team. In fact I'm one of the top divers in the county. Last year I was leading the County Championships after 4 rounds, when I came up for a dive. It was a pretty simple dive, a backward 1 1/2, and I got way up in the air, and went into the water almost perfect. I knew I had done awesome as I swam up to the surface and hopped out of the pool. All of a sudden, I noticed that everyone in the stadium was laughing and pointing at me. I looked down and noticed that I was standing outside of the pool completely naked! I guess I hit the water so fast that it just ripped my shorts right off and I never even noticed until I got out. I figured I must have forgotten to tie my draw string but hadn't hit the water hard enough to make a difference on my earlier dives. Whatever the reason, I was horrified when I realized I was standing naked in front of the entire crowd, which included my entire team, guys AND girls, as well as all the other teams in the county that were competing, many of whom I knew well from previous competitions. If that wasn't bad enough, my little sister had come to watch with a couple of her friends, and my best friend/next-door-neighbor of 14 years (female) was in the audience. (She has never let me live it down, either.) And to top it off, the media gave a full story on the incident in the county paper. It made the front page of the sports section (which is only 2 pages long anyway) and featured a picture of my shorts on the surface of the pool next to a picture of two girls in the audience (who were also in my science class) pointing and laughing so hard they're red in the face. It's my sister's most prized possession. (No pictures of me, thank god! My face would've been the color of a tomato.) Anyway, I think you get the idea. I was seriously considering transferring schools, but I would have had to go out of the county to escape recognition. I'm known all over school for it now and people even aproach me in the halls asking "Aren't you the guy that lost your shorts at the dive meet?"
