Date: 10/6/2001 8:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 43214    My religion does excommunication. (I'm LDS). They don't do it to throw people out or anything, they only do it when the member wants to be excommunicated. Hope this helps!!

Date: 10/6/2001 9:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 17650    um i wasn't going to respond to this, but i feel i need to add a little to what princess angel stated... i too am LDS and excommunication is not a choice a member makes. it's the decision of the bishop himself. but it is only done in extreme situations. this may be adultery, murder..or say that this person has been put on probation, or dis-fellowshiped previously and continues to act against the gospel then more extreme actions are taken. like i said this isn't something our church takes lightly, i only know of 2 people that have ever been excommunicated(personally)...and both have stayed in the church and are able to be active(as in holding callings, able to get temple recommends and such)again. anyways, also this isn't something that anyone else knows about unless the person tells someone. it's between you and the bishop. i'm responding in regards to your question i hope by responding to this post, that my faith will not be attacked. thanx--->

Date: 10/7/2001 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 35456    I am also LDS, we alsop excommuncate as a means of love that you are not judged as a member in good staning. It gives you a fresh start. we do not end the friend ship with the person, in fact it may not be know if a person is excommuncated, A very serious act must be done, such as as serious crime, You are givem counselling and change to repent to come back yardbird

the testimony of two or more witnesses to the
wrong doing to be excommunciated???
