On the Crow Indian Reservation,Fort Abraham Lincoln stil holds a mystery dating back to 1876.In May, 1876, General George A. Custer's 600 troops marched from this fort to join other trops in an assault on Sioux Indians. As residents of the fort waved good-bye and watched the 7th Cavalry Regiment ride off to the southeast, they were astonished to see almost half of the troops ride off into the sky and vanish from sight, while the remaining troops were in plain view. Many interperted the srange vision as an omen of impending doom. On June 25, at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Custer and 264 of his troops, about half of those who marched out of Fort Lincoln, were killed by the united tribes of the Sioux Indian Nation.
