Am I silly for being upset about this?????? *~Kysta~* UPDATED!!!!!

My five year old daughter, Kaylee, came home from school yesterday in pain. She wasn't able to move her neck hardly at all because it hurt her. When I asked her what was wrong, she said, "My teacher said I slept on it wrong."

She was feeling so bad that she lay down on the couch and went to sleep as soon as she got home and I gave her some tylenol. When she woke up, I got more bits and pieces as to what happened at school. She said that she had been running and turned her head somehow and that is when it started hurting. She also said that she tried to get her teacher to let her call me, but her teacher had said no, that she needed to stay at school. I am very upset about this, because if she had called me yesterday morning when it happened I could have taken her to the doctor then because My husband hadn't left for work yet. But Kaylee said she couldn't call me because her teacher said she had just slept on it wrong. I wouldn't have sent her to school yesterday if she was hurting, Her neck was fine when she left here.

So,I didn't have a way to take her to the doctor yesterday evening (I have no car and my nearest relative is an hour away and my husband was working) But I am taking her this morning. She is still unable to move her neck to the left or up and if she had only slept on it wrong it would have been hurting yesterday morning and it wouldn't have still been hurting today would it? I just can't understand why her teacher wouldn't let her call me if she was in pain. Am I being too over protective to be so upset over this???

Well, I am waiting on my mom to come and pick us up to take her to the doctor's office, What do you think????

Love,

*~Kysta~*

******************************Update********************************

I Just spent the last five hours at the hospital with her, It wouldn't have been so long, but the crazy radiologist took her x-rays to the wrong department! But nothing major is wrong with her, the doctor said that she had a severe sprain in her neck and shoulder and told me to give her tylenol for the pain and use a heating pad. She can't go to school tomorrow, which she is soooo depressed about, LOL! And she also can't go to gym class for a week.

I called her teacher when we got home, and she seemed worried about her. I asked her why she wouldn't let her call me and she said she was trying to see if it got better and had asked kaylee to wait until after lunch and if it still hurt that bad she would call me. Her teacher also said that when it first happened (after gym class) that she couldn't even raise her arm up But as time went on, after lunch, it had gotten better, because she had asked Kaylee if it still hurt as bad as earlier to which Kaylee said no. But by the time the buses came she could tell that it had gotten worse again. She said she was glad that I took her to the hospital, because she was worried about her when she didn't show up for class today, and she would save her school work for her and so on.

I made it clear before I hang up with her that she would call me from now on when something happens to her and to not wait until after lunch to see if it got better. I said if she is in pain whether she is crying over it or not to call me, and she agreed with me.

I don't know what to think, But I dont' think she will wait again.

Thanks,

love and hugs,

*~Kysta~*

Date: 11/6/2001 6:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    kysta, I would've been upset as well but, I think I would wait to find out what the doctor says before, confronting the teacher. I know when, my two are old enough to go to school I would want to be notified right away even, if the teacher or nurse feels it isn't a big deal. I hope your daughter feels better. And, if the doctor feels that it is something that should've been looked at yesterday then, tell the teacher immediate and even if, he doesn't think it is something that he had to see right away let the teacher know next time you want to know regardless.
Date: 11/6/2001 6:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 20497    I think that you have EVERY reason to be upset. Yea it may not be anything life threatening but what if she pulled a muscle. That hurts when we adults have a kink or a pinch in our necks. I would be very upset, she should have been allowed to call you. YOU are the mother and it should have been your call as to whether she stayed at school or went home. Let me know what the doctor says. I am curious and I hope she feels better soon.........Take Care..
Date: 11/6/2001 6:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 4739    With cases of menangitis and such going around, I hardly think that was the teacher's call. At the very least, she could've notified you or sent her to the nurse. (Not saying that it is menangitis, she would have more symptoms; just giving an example...) Good luck at the doctor's! *hugs*
Date: 11/6/2001 6:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30986    THank you guys, that is what I thought!!!!!!!!! Ooooh, the more I think about it the madder I get!! I dont' think it is meningitis, because she doesn't have a fever or anything. I kept checking her temp last night. love,
Date: 11/6/2001 6:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    At the very least your daughter should have been sent to the school nurse. I would call the teacher after school today and get her side of the story....Kelly
Date: 11/6/2001 6:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 40881    Well, I agree with everyone^^^..I have 3 kids and I would be so upset if this happend to me!! You should talk to the teacher today((after the dr. visit) and let her know that it your choice to come get her...not her's! I hope all goes well for your daughter today!!
Date: 11/6/2001 6:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    Hey sis! *hugs* I don't thinkn you're overreacting...you're just wanting Kaylee to be safe, and there is nothing wrong with that! And I agree with the advice of everyone above! Love,
Date: 11/6/2001 6:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 4614    I'm with Tammy...That was the first thing I thought of...But yeah, the teacher is no doctor...
Date: 11/6/2001 7:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 24963    As a fellow mother I can't agree with you more for being upset(well actually furious!). If a 5 year old child slept on thier neck wrong enough to hurt it wouldn't hurt that much, and you sure would've known before you sent her off to school. How much of an idiot is this teacher?? Or does this teacher not give a crap?!? You should have been called the minute your daughter said she was hurting!! Or at least sent to the nurse, and then called you! Its obvious she got hurt during the course of the day at school. I can't beleive people are that stupid!! I hope your daughter is ok and you get this situation resolved!
Date: 11/6/2001 7:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    Kysta hon you are NOT overreacting here...that teacher should have called you definately...I hope that your little girl is ok..message me when you get back ok? xoxo
Date: 11/6/2001 8:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 38270    Oh I would have been on the phone to the school the minute she got home!!!!!! Nothing makes me madder than messing with my kid!!!!!! I would definitly go see and talk to that teacher. If Kaylee so much as sneezes she would be calling to let me know!!!!!
Date: 11/6/2001 8:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 277    You need to understand that the teacher has a lot of kids complaining about tummy aches, having to go potty and necks hurting on occasion. If I were her I probably would have told her she probably slept on it wrong and had her go sit down. You should think about how many 5 year olds want to call their mommy from school. The teacher is not at fault and neither are you. Just take her to the doctor if she's still in pain. I'm sure it's nothing serious. She is certainly getting your attention so she may just keep it up. My 3 year old son had us convinced he broke his arm a few months ago. He got it from a Little Bill cartoon on Nickolodeon. He wanted a cast like Little Bill when the truth finally came out. You'd be amazed what kids do for attention.
Date: 11/6/2001 8:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 38270    HAWK............I am sorry to say that I disagree with you! Which is no surprise but any child that does what Kaylee did is not just trying to get attention! I know Kaylee and I know there is probably something wrong with her!!!!! AND THAT IS ALL I WANT TO SAY TO YOU!!!!! NO I WANT TO SAY ONE MORE THING..............I will say a prayer for you!!!!!!!!!!
Date: 11/6/2001 8:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 38270    And I don't care how many complaints a teacher gets a day, she should take them all serious! If it were her child she would want them to be treated with compassion and understanding and to be believed and not told to go sit down somewhere! The same thing happened with my sister one time.....EMT IN TRAINING......She had to go to the bathroom and because she had just went an hour ago the teacher wouldn't let her and she ended up in the hospital with a severe infection. And you better believe that she heard from my MOM AND DAD! They always taught us not to lie and they told the teacher that if she said she needed to go to the bathroom then she needed to go. She wouldn't lie to them!!!!!!! I think it's terrible when kids just get dismissed because they are kids and adults don't take them serious! And I know that sometimes kids pretend and maybe they aren't getting the attention they need at home. But I hope and pray that everything is ok with Kaylee!!!!!!
Date: 11/6/2001 9:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 3125    Hi Kysta My son passed away with spinal menigitis and one of the symptoms was neck soreness.. Menigitis is going around now and yes I would have been very upset at the teacher..She had no right to make that call..I would definitely make my objections known to the school prinicipal and if he/she didn't at least reprimand the teacher, then the school board would hear from me..I do hope your sister is ok..
Date: 11/6/2001 9:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 3125    ^^I meant *daughter*^^
Date: 11/6/2001 10:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 6358    I hope your daughter is ok....and you are not wrong in overreacting.......let us know what happens at the doctor's office.
Date: 11/6/2001 10:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 16061    Kysta you are not overreacting at all, I would have been calling the school to find out WHY you were not called when it originally happend. Not medically qualified but it sounds as if she has pulled a muscle in her neck and that will hurt, you should have been called or at least informed that she had complained about her neck hurting.
Date: 11/6/2001 11:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 38270    Yeah and at least the teacher should have sent a note or something home with Kaylee!!!!!!!!!!
Date: 11/6/2001 12:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 31151    No I don't think you are silly. I would be finding out for sure what was going on!
Date: 11/6/2001 12:23:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30986    Thanks to all of you who commented!!!!!!!!! I appreciate it!! Rusure, I'm so sorry to hear about your son. I'm lucky, my daughter only had a sprained neck, my thoughts are with you! Hawk, I thought she may be faking too, I look for that kinda of stuff. but the pain in her eyes proved that she wasn't. Plus she couldn't turn her neck to that same side all night long and she kept her ear to her shoulder to keep from straightening it out, I know she wasn't faking it because it was obvious. Also when this child comes home and goes straight to sleep you KNOW something is wrong, LOL! But I can see where you are coming from and I appreciate your comment... the story about your son was funny too. I don't think my kids could carry it off though, LOL!!! Love and hugs to you all!!!!
Date: 11/6/2001 12:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 6358    Glad to hear she is ok! Are you going to say anything to the teacher?
Date: 11/6/2001 1:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 33925    Oh Im sorry she is in so much pain, but Im glad it wasnt anything worse! I am also glad that you spoke to her teacher...xoxo
Date: 11/6/2001 1:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 16061    That is great to here. Glad she is ok, and tell her to go careful dont want to make it worse.

Date: 11/6/2001 1:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    I'd be doing some serious smacking of that teacher of hers. I'm sorry but NECK INJURIES no matter how MINIOR are NOTHING to kid with. Glad kaylee will be alright hun...
Date: 11/6/2001 1:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 40881    Aww..poor baby!! A sprained neck HURTS! Well, I'm glad she's Okay I still think the teacher was wrong...but as long as you made your point clear...There should be no more problems! Give her a hug from me!!
Date: 11/6/2001 2:54:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 30986    I will, thanks!!! love and hugs,
Date: 11/6/2001 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    Kysta..I have just gotten over a problem where I couldn't turn my neck from side to side..I don't think it would be so easy for a child to fake something like that..They fake headaches, sick tummies, etc, things which are not so obvious..At least mine did.. ..One time one of my sons didn't want to go to school because his head and tummy hurt..I went to get the thermometer and I put it in his mouth and left the room..I returned to checked it and the line was so high that I couldn't see it..Ummm,well now..How did that happen?..My son went to school because he felt find to me and had no signs like flushed cheeks,etc..This was just one of those calls I made that mothers has to do sometimes..I was a little concern though..I had thought that maybe his headache, etc meant that he was going to get sick..He was find when he came home though..Later as he sat around playing with cars with his brother,I heard my son tell his brother that he run hot water on the thermometer, while they sat and laughed..Precious memories are made of the cutiest things that our children did as they were growing up.
Date: 11/6/2001 5:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 3125    I am glad to hear that your daughter is doing fine..(((hugs)) Hang in there Mommy!!
Date: 11/7/2001 8:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 38270    I am sorry if I was rude to anyone on here. I was just upset because I didn't know how my little cousin was doing and It had been a long time since she posted this and the update!!!!!!
Date: 11/8/2001 7:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 4739    Thanks for the update, Kysta! I'm sure her teacher will think twice next time something like this happens, but, hopefully, nothing ever will. Hope she's feeling better! *hugs*
Date: 11/8/2001 8:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 10657    I am happy to see that it wasn't anything to serious but, in your daughters mind it was serious enough to cause her pain and that is the important thing!!
