Has anyone else done anything this stupid?......Aunt Be

Sometimes I just don't think....here's the stupid thing I did. I was running late on my errands and had to be at an appointment at a certain time to meet with a realtor about selling my house. I didn't want to miss the appointment because I would have no other time for a week and I wanted to get it done with. As I'm driving down the road I realize that I hadn't put my earrings in. I know, I know...it's stupid thing to be concerned with but I felt naked okay? So I reached into that compartment thingy and pull out my emergency spare pair. (doesn't everyone keep a spare pair of earings in their car?) So I'm driving down the road going about 60, driving with my elbows trying to put these earrings in. (they are peirced and we all know that requires two hands to do)

Before I go any further I will answer some questions you may have. No, there was no one else in the car with me. No, there was no traffic and yes, I could of put the earrings on when I got there but I wasn't thinking....that is my point.

All of a sudden this deer jumps out in frount of me and I barely had time to react with both hands on the wheel...with two elbows it was alot harder believe me. (deer jumping out in the roads is a big hazard to us up here in upstate NY) I missed the deer thank goodness but unfortunately I took the ditch and most of a corn field. I was badly shaken but not hurt at all. My car did not do so well. I really messed up the underside and it's going to cost me alot of money to repair. All this because of my stupid vanity.

I learned a big lesson today. First of all...I will always remember to put my earrings on BEFORE I leave the house and secondly...When I think about what COULD of happened it puts alot of things into perspective. I'll take my driving alot more seriously from now on.

So has anyone else done anything stupid while driving that made you stop and think about how careless moments caused a close call? I've been fortunate not to have been in any serious accidents in my life. It's actually quite serious. Alot of people probubly die each year for not thinking...the way I didn't think. I was very lucky. *hugs*

Date: 11/10/2001 7:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 18103    I have been in a few wrecks, and none have been my fault. But the reasons for the wrecks was things just like this. One chick that rear ended me was getting a bug off her arm & didn't "see me" SO I know all about stuff like this LOL
Date: 11/10/2001 7:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 39258    you should never feel "dumb" if you learn a valuable, life saving lesson and are able to share it with others.

Date: 11/10/2001 7:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 31255    That's freaky... I always try and drive carefully... but then again I dont have to deal with deers... just highschools on skateboards and bicycles who think that the stop signs aren't meant for them! *hugs*
Date: 11/10/2001 7:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 40012    Its funny when you think about it, when I started driving I was 15 and had to think so hard while driving, and stressed about every little thing, now I carelessly drive to and from here and there, often not evn remembering the one hour ride to work...scary...BTW, we have trouble up here with deer and moose...my friends from the south got a real kick out of the moose signs....
Date: 11/10/2001 8:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 45326    omg toodles i know what you are talking about...we have these young kids in the neighborhood who think they are invincible..so they don't move when you drive down the road....AGHHHH its Aggravating...(i'm sorry i totally made my own post in your post) but i had to say that...i almost ran into the wall of the bridge trying to check my hair...i'm glad you're ok*hugs* >fragglerock<

Date: 11/10/2001 8:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 38474    Stupid, you want stupid, here is the stupid accident I caused. On the morning I had my interview for the police dept. I currently work for I ran over my HUSBAND, LOL. yep my poor hubby. I was running late and I HAD to be at this interview. My hubby was leaving for work at the same time I was leaving, the poor man. I was backing out of the driveway in a 3 day old brand new car and I didn't see my hubby behind me. I hit him and he fell right on top of the big bush beside our driveway. LOLOLOL. I know this is horrible, but I just couldn't stop laughing, seeing this big burly man sprawled out in a bush. THANK GOD, he wasn't hurt just MAD, I don't blame him, I think I would have been a little ticked off to. I learned a very valuable lesson that day DO NOT RUN OVER YOUR HUBBY. They get a little mad...........
Date: 11/10/2001 9:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 32070    Nope! Heehee. Glad your OK! Now I'm a little worried, Racquie can't even back out of her driveway without running over her husband, And they gave her a car and a gun and everything! SCARY!!!! LOL..J/K...*HUGS*
Date: 11/10/2001 9:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 38474    LMAO at PL, crrrraaaaazzzzzyyyyy aren't they, lol. Actually I haven't wrecked the cruiser YET, Thank god, I would NEVER live that down. But to make a painful stupid mistake even worse on the VERY NEXT DAY, the forth day of owning my first brand new car I was backing out of MY SAME DRIVEWAY and I hit a plumbers truck that was parked off to the side of our driveway, of course his truck wasn't damaged but the whole right rear quarter panal of my new olds was. I HATED BACKING THAT CAR OUT OF OUR DRIVEWAY, LOL, my hubby told me "ONE MORE TIME AND I AM TAKING AWAY YOUR KEYS". I don't think he was happy with my driving, still can't figure out why, lol......
Date: 11/10/2001 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 32070    Heehee, Racquie. Maybe they should disengage the reverse from your cruiser! Should would make me feel better if you were patroling my area. LMAO! just tell your hubby to make the driveway bigger. LOL..*HUGS*
Date: 11/10/2001 10:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 38474    I agree with ya PL, I HATE REVERSE. If they did disengage it from my cruiser, I am sure it would be a much safer place, lol. Ya know the idea about the driveway is a GREAT ONE. I will mention that to my hubby. He will probably tell me I just need to go through Driver's Ed again though, lol, he really wanted to send me to a drivers ed class after the last wreck. *HUGS*......
Date: 11/10/2001 10:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 32070    Alright Racquie. I just looked at your profile. Your a liitle to close for comfort here! LOL...*HUGS*
Date: 11/11/2001 1:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 8941    Yes, I've had a minor accident due to a stupid situation, and I did learn from it....Isn't it interesting, at least in my case, how the weakness of a person can teach you a lesson in a hurry? (In my case it was my temper)
Date: 11/11/2001 1:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 8941    LOL @ Racquie and Private Lady :D
Date: 11/11/2001 6:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    AuntBe.. no I havent down anything like that. I am glad you are OK. My son did the same thing a few months back (no he wasn't putting in earrings) but he looked over at the girl siting next to him and out came the deer.. he went up the cornfirld and down the ditch. almost 7000 dollars in damage to the truck and a concussion later he learned not to take his eyes off the road.
Date: 11/11/2001 9:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 28363    Those deer do that here, I am glad you came out okay.
Date: 11/11/2001 10:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    Don't kick yourself TOO hard Aunt Be, we were in the car Friday night with my hubby, both concentrating on the road when a big buck jumped in front of the car... YIKES! nothing happened cause he bounded away, but even with both of us paying attention, we would have not been able to stop the car at that distane...
Date: 11/11/2001 10:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 23037    i drove right out in front of a train , not thinking and never looked before crossing , i should know better my own mom was ran over by a train , thank god it missed me by about 2 inches...
Date: 11/14/2001 11:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 44018    Yes , driving down the road in NC with a beer in one hand , a map in the other and steering with my knee ,,,, now that is stupidity .... LOL .... MichaelSalyers
