Rod Of Scrye Part 3

Terran walked slowly down the street, pulling his cloak around him to muffle the creaks of his slightly rusted armor, as he took in his surroundings. Light and sound spilled into the dark street from a nearby tavern as a drunken man flew through a window, spreading glass shards as he went. The young paladin looked towards the man in disgust and quickly moved onward to the next tavern, gratified to see that was a little more up market. He rented a room and ascended the stairs. Groaning in relief, he stripped off his amour and fell onto the bed. Terran had never dreamed his life as a paladin would cause him to associate with people like those he was traveling with. Mertai in particular was a complete mystery to him. He had heard of half-elves but never had he actually met one. They seemed to have the best of both worlds, he mused. Suddenly a large thump interrupted his reverie. Thrust into action, he quickly picked up his katana and turned, holding it ready toward the direction of the noise. Upon glimpsing the intruder, Terran hastily lowered his sword. A large gold half-dragon stood in the middle of the room, it's scaly torso glinting in the candlelight. Terran sat open-mouthed in shock as the dragon began to speak. "On behalf of Almighty Scrye, I am come to charge thee with a holy quest. Come with me," the majestic creature commanded in a loud, booming voice. He looked at the paladin before him, thinking him a trifle young and inexperienced to be trusted with such an important and dangerous mission. T The young man took a deep breath and stepped forward. "Lead the way," he replied bravely, inwardly hoping he would not regret his decision. Mertai emerged from the temple followed closely by Maraan and Panthera. Terran however was nowhere to be seen. "Where is he?" asked Maraan impatiently. "You did tell him noon today right?" He looked at Mertai accusingly. "Of course," she replied coolly, "Look, there he is now." The figure of Terran came staggering up the road, his eyes alight with religious fervor. He began to run upon spotting his party standing outside the temple. Mertai closed her eyes and groaned inwardly. Why did she decide to travel with a Paladin? She just hoped that he hadn't been enlightened to the fact that she had been stealing spell books, scrolls and gold since she came into this town. He arrived at the bottom of the stairs, more than a little worn out from sprinting in full armor at midday. Looking Mertai in the face, he proudly announced, " I have been given a holy quest by my Lord God." "Really?" Mertai replied raising one eyebrow and laughing quietly to Maraan. She turned at the sound of a loud crash. Terran had fallen over and was fast asleep from exhaustion. She shook her head, sighed and supervised the others dragging the paladin off the street.
