I personally would not start a relationship unless I was sure and I doubt you can be sure that it would work out. It would be terrible to lose a ten year friend if it didn't. I would just say no, I just want to always be your friend.My daughter did this once and she lost that person as a b/f and friend and she's always regretted it and so have I. He was like my son.
