WELFARE mothers are lazy, ABORTION is murder, ADD is a crock and CHARITY is for bums..........

Was it the title that brought you here? I had to get your attention somehow. I really wanted to share this with everyone....

First let me make it clear that I did NOT write this. I found it in a book called "Believing In Myself" written by Earnie Larsen and Carol Hegarty. I have been doing alot more reading lately due to the boredom from surgery recovery.

I think it is a very interesting piece of writing and I wanted to share it. It kinda opened my eyes. I am in the debate section alot and I, like alot of others, tend to look at the statistics and forget about the people behind them. I base my opinions on the facts as I know them, I use my life experiance as a basis for my views. I learn from researching a topic. I guess my point is that I always try to see the statistics and the facts. I am not one who trys to look at the emotions behind them. In doing so I would have to acknowledge that for every fact and statistic that I find there is a human being that has had to personally face the problem I am researching.

So please the next time you think a mother on welfare is just plain lazy, a woman who has had to make the decision to abort her child is just a selfish murderer, parents that medicate their child due to ADD or ADHD are just unfit parents who don't want to parent their child, or that the person who is panhandling is just a bum, TRY THINKING ABOUT THE PERSON YOU ARE CONDEMNING. Walk a mile in their shoes before you condemn them and label them.

That mother who is on welfare, could have just left an abusive husband who has always supported her as long as he was allowed to beat the holy crap out of her. That single mother who aborted her child could have been moments away from death, it could have been a medical necessity that she abort or die. Who would raise her already living children? Those parents who are medicating their child because of ADD or ADHD could have just spent years trying to do EVERYTHING in their power to help their child without medication and NOTHING worked. Oh, and that gentleman who was outside your doorstep panhandling, he could have been one of the WONDERFUL veterans who fought in Vietnam and continues to fight that war in his mind to THIS VERY DAY.

So please try to understand the PERSON and the SITUATION BEFORE you condemn them.

"Do not put your faith in what statistics say until you have carefully considered what the do not say." William W. Watt

Way back in kindergarten we started learning to sort out same from different. When we could separate the red buttons from the blue, the short sticks from the long, we got a pat on the head. Categorizing is a thinking skill that helps us organize facts so we can deal with them better. If we couldn't sort things out, our world would be an unmanageable mess.

But human beings are neither facts nor things. When we categorize ourselves or other people, we deceive ourselves. Such categorization dehumanize and makes self-esteem impossible. People are too complex to fit into our pigeon holes. Labels like unemployed and welfare recipient, for example, only mean what they mean. They tell us only a little piece of an individual's rich story. Such labels describe, BUT they do NOT define. They turn people into statistics.

In our pursuit of right thinking, we begin to see that other people, just like ourselves, are NOT nearly so neatly classifiable as we thought they were. In discovering our own rich mix of pluses and minuses, we realize that tidying up people into neat compartments has been a way of discounting them. Instead of categorizing to think better, we have categorized to slap down a label so we don't have to think at all.

Date: 12/8/2001 10:41:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    Thunder, hey lady, long time no chat, lol. Thank you for your great reply. I just needed to vent a little tonite. My hubby has PMS and we got into an argument over how mothers that are on welfare take away money that should go to homeless veterans. It's been a long nite, lol. Huge hugs, love ya..............
Date: 12/8/2001 10:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 48030    I agree *Julianna*~
Date: 12/8/2001 10:49:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    Karen, sweetie I know the heartwrenching decision of abortion. I had an ectopic pregnancy and almost died because of not having the medically necessary abortion that was needed until it was almost to late. I have also been called a murderer and have been condemned by others even though I almost died carrying something that had NO chance to live. I wanted that child and when someone judges me and doesn't even take the time to learn WHY I had an abortion, it hurts. I know it shouldn't but I admit at times it does. Please don't let anyone make you think any less of yourself, they are NOT you and they have NOT been in your place. Please message me if you EVER need to talk, hugs..............
Date: 12/8/2001 11:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 40145    I don't think some women who are on welfare are lazy, but they HAVE to use it to live on, because I was the one who had to be on welfare, I had to, i had a kid, im deaf and in this city, i couldn't find a job, if i didnt i can't have my son with me, i would have to give him to my mother, or my sister, but no i didn't. I was on welfare for a while until i found a job, I quit using welfare. so I do not think ALL women are on it lazy. just to let you know :) otherwise, good post hon.
Date: 12/8/2001 11:08:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    Panther lover, that is the whole point of the post, it is saying that not all mothers on welfare are on it because they are lazy, lol. I totally agree with ya, THAT IS MY POINT. :) Hugs to you and your son.............
Date: 12/9/2001 12:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 27046    STANDS UP AND APPLAUDS WILDLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is without a doubt the BEST post I have seen around here in a LONG time! That is right come and spend a week in my shoes with my daughter!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
Date: 12/9/2001 12:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    AZ, thank you for the great reply. I know all to well the trials of living with a child with ADD, it is HARD. My daughter was diagnosed when she was in kindergarten. I medicated while she was in kindergarten and first grade but we took her off her meds due to it totally exhausting her. It is hard, and the schools do not make things any easier either. Her first grade teacher had a son who had ADD, she made it a point to insist that my daughter would always have problems due to the ADD. Now her current (second grade) teacher insists she is like every other 2nd grader and that there is no problems. In society anymore it's sorta like you are darned if you do (medicate) and darned if you don't, know what I mean???? Huge Hugs........
Date: 12/9/2001 1:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 30229    Sis... this is a GREAT post!!!! I think a lot of this is things that people dont think about... and now you have made them think!!! Thank you so much for sharing it and maybe it will make us not so judgemental when seeing someone different than we are... Love and Huge Hugggggs......

Date: 12/9/2001 1:20:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    Gail, hey sis, that's just what I was trying to get everyone to do :) I don't know if it will work but I had to post something about it. Just had to get it off my chest. My hubby ticked me off tonite and I had to write. I didn't plan on making it so long but I just couldn't stop, lol. ((((HUGE HUGS))) By the way I can't stop fanning myself, this HEAT, LOL....
Date: 12/9/2001 1:22:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    LOL at DMK, Yea the title is a little misleading, LOL. I knew it would get someone to read it, :) okay I cheated but just a little, lol. I am glad you enjoyed it. Big hugs..............
Date: 12/9/2001 6:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 39887    In the situations you listed it would be unfair to judge. There are exceptions and I know some of them! Its not the people that need it and have a right to it that upsets people but its those who use and abuse welfare and make it a way of life and pass it from one generation to the other. I think you should have a choice in giving from your check to welfare, whether its a little or a lot. I should have a choice in who I support and I should know why I am doing it. I know someone right now is is happy living offf the welfare system, committing fraud to do it. This family has been reported many times but its never been taken away! I know other people who need it and cannot get it! I know one little elderly lady who could only get 13.00 a month in food stamps, ridiculous and think how she felt!Yet this young couple gets a free place to live, 525.00, 350.00 in food stamps, goodwill furnishes them with christmas, the two children get a social security check each a month, plus child support from their father. Now the step dad is trying to claim he is disabled to work and is trying to get a disability check too! They know the system and like a leech, they suck it dry. I don't judge people of children with problems that they have to take medicine for, never will, thank God, I never had to experience that. I don't condone abortion, unless its a matter of life or death. I do however think its wrong to get pregnant from moments of passion and pleasure and decide to kill the baby because you don't want it. There are too
many ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy, you don't HAVE to get pregnant. Rape and life and death situations are exceptions. I know a nurse at an abortion clinic, she sees repeated young girls, some having had as many as three abortions and they are all under the age of 21, something is wrong! The stories they hear is that the girl thought if she got pregnant, her boyfriend would marry her or not leave, where is this attitude coming from? The Vets you talk about all get govt. checks and free healthcare, maybe they need more. I feel like if you can stand on a corner in the hot sun or cold, then you are capable of working, vet, or not. I am sorry. This is a great post for people that deserve what they need but its not realistic that all people fit into this category. Please don't be mad at me, its my opinion. BUSYBEE

Date: 12/9/2001 6:21:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    Busy Bee, not mad just a little disappointed, guess some are missing the reason for the post after all, JMO.............
Date: 12/9/2001 6:26:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 38474    And another thing Busy Bee did you not read where it states "Walk a mile in their shoes before you condemn them and label them." I guess even though some of us have never had to deal with a situation we will always judge it. Oh well, guess you can't please everyone and I am not even going to try on this post, I am entitled to MY opinion just as YOU are entitled to yours, have a nice morning...............
Date: 12/9/2001 8:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 46704    Wonderful post! Thanks. Cloudfire
