Like...Anyways - Over use of these words

First of all "anyways" is NOT a word. I hate when people say, "Well, anyways" it's such terrible English. The people who say it don't sound very well educated in my opinion. Then, there is the use of the word "like". I know a teenager that uses it all the time. She is so boring to listen to. If I have helped one person bringing this to their attention, my work is done. If you want to sound like a smart person stop using these words. Whirlwn53

Date: 1/17/2002 3:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 10534    "She" is so boring to listen to? Um I've actually heard a guy say "like" just about every other word before too. Yes, it's mostly girls but there are guys out there too that say that. I say anyways, I don't care...
Date: 1/17/2002 3:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I don't mind it too much , maybe because I am obne of those people... anyways...

Date: 1/17/2002 4:15:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27735    IcyFire you should care - this is the impression you leave people with. When you look for a job the impression you make is so important. You don't want to use the words "like" and "anyways". I promise you most likely won't get the job. If it is a habit you should try and break it.
Date: 1/17/2002 4:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 30229    What a GREAT post!!! I know that that sort of "slang" gets on my nerves.. there is NOTHING wrong with trying to be correct in our words and the way we use them. I also detest the shorthand on the computer too... BEFORE=B4, too=2, YOU=U... Those things are aggravating to try to read!!! And so is.. ThIs FoRm Of TaLkInG, I dO nOt sEe tHe rEaSoNiNg bEhInD it.. it takes LONGER to do... Thanks for bringing this up my friend!!!
Date: 1/17/2002 4:16:00 PM  From Authorid: 47896    umm, I say like all the time and I also say anywayz, but hey I'm just 15 so, ya know. I kid, thats what kids do!
Date: 1/17/2002 4:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 28193    I know what you mean.I am tired of,"you know","you see what I'm sayin", "loser", "whatever"...and, especially this one.... "be-otch". ~Golden Taxi.
Date: 1/17/2002 4:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27735    Gail, I understand about the computer slang. Sometimes I have to stop and try and understand what is being said. It is confusing sometimes.
Date: 1/17/2002 6:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 6528    Heh, I'm guilty of the "anyways" over here. Like is also a big one at school. And the ever-popular "um". In Speech class today, of all classes, some people couldn't ask the teacher something unless they started with "Ok,..." or "Um..." The teacher kept telling them to start again, and they couldn't seem to spit it out w/o these filler words!
Date: 1/17/2002 7:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 25756    OMG like never man!! Anyways..I get what you mean! lol! NO! I'm just kidding!! I know what you mean but the words are so hard to stop using after you start..kind of like an addiction.
