"Bree, you realize what we are leaving behind," Zandr reached her hand out and lifted Gautr's chin to make him look her in the eyes. "We both begin Final school in the spring, and you've already started learning Oltondr!"
Gautr pulled his face from his sisters hands, "I can't back down now."
"You are willing to take this risk, Gautr, you, the logical one? The sensible twin? The boy with a future?" Gautr moved to stand up, but Zandr grabbed his hand, forcing him to sit down at the small table in their room.
"Yes! Yes, Zandr, I am willing to risk everything for some journey that probably won't be worth it! For some journey that could end in death!" Gautr yelled, slamming his fist down.
"Why? What is this sudden change in attitude?" Zandr asked, "Why are you acting the part of the reckless twin? The twin with no future!"
"Because I am that twin, Bree, I am now!" Tears were forming in Gautr's eyes as he let his body slump over.
"Gautr, I love you, I know when something is wrong. Did you really think I wouldn't notice this change? What's happened in the past few days? Bree, you know you can tell me."
"But I don't even believe it myself, Bree."
"Gautr, please."
"I'm a father, Jadit is pregnant. She found out the beginning of this moon-cycle." Gautr cleared his through and stood up.
"Oh..." Zandr's eyes widened, she stood up as well, "and you are going to run away from her?"
"Na! Na!" Gautr yelled, "I want to go to gain riches; I want to be able to support a family. I love Jadit, but what can a poor merchant's son do? A motherless boy who hasn't even finished school?"
"Na, Gautr, this isn't how things are supposed to be. I'm the one who needs to make mistakes, not you. Oh, Gautr..." Zandr walked around the table and pulled Gautr to her body, embracing him. "Are you sure you want to come?"
"Ay," he answered, pushing her away.
"Then I will write the note now." Zandr reached up to the shelf next to her bed and grabbed the ink and paper that rested there. She sat down at the table and took a deep breath before she began writing.
"Zandr, shouldn't you be excited? You've always dreamed of an adventure, and now you have it." Gautr pulled a chair by his sister and sat down, his arm around her shoulders. "Just think, even I am excited!"
"Ay, I am excited, but I worry for you, Bree." Zandr looked up from her writing, "I worry about you."
"Don't, I am aware of my deeds- and I do enough worry for the lot of us." Gautr paused for a moment, contemplating, "Just, will you write something for Jadit? Tell her I will return soon, and I love her."
"Agre, I will. Shall I put in her letter the truth?" The girl asked as she folded the letter to their father and placed it at the center of the table. "Should I tell her about all this?"
"Tell her some of it, that we are going to seek riches, and that I am doing this for her, and that when I return I wish to be with her, forever." Gautr then winced at his thoughts, "but tell her it is safe, that we gained permission for the journey. And tell her no one can find out what she knows, not one.."
Gautr sighed and left the room; Zandr heard the door creak as he left the house, most likely to go see Yvan or Toamh.
