The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ..   Author: 17  Category:(Ghosts) Created:(8/28/1999 10:46:00 PM) This post has been Viewed (2769 times) My three brothers and I were exploring a cave in central Tenn located on some property owned by some distant relatives. Ever since the Civil War there had been rumors that the cave was used as a refuge by Confederates. We spent a day exploring the caverns. It was interesting but we found nothing out of the ordinary for a spelunking expedition. During our lunch break that we took in the depths of that cave, we momentarily turned off our lamps to experience real total darkness. All of a sudden a bright light flashed. Three of us were startled until we realized that the flash was only that of our brother's camera as he snapped a shot of us. Remember, there were four of us brothers in the cave. That was all that happened that day. It was several weeks later that the brother who snapped the picture visited me. He had just picked up his photographs from the photo shop. He told me to look at the photo of the surprise snapshot he took in the cave. There was me and two of! my brothers. Of course, he was not in the picture since he took it. But...in the background several yards behind us brothers was another person. It was a short man and he was looking toward us. He had a long beard and wore a hat. He was carrying something in his arms. Although his image was not distinct because of the poor lighting, he certainly appeared to be wearing a military uniform. As incredible as seemed we both thought of pictures we had seen of Civil War soldiers. We tried to find alternate explanations (rock formations, shadows, etc) but it was just too clear. Someone had been in that cave with us. We showed it to the other two brothers and they were equally surprised and puzzled. We have since showed the photo to a number of people without even mentioning the mystery figure and almost all immediately ask about the person in the Civil War uniform. Of course, when we explain what happened most think that we staged it. But the four of us know the truth of! the matter. I personally (along with one of my brothers) have formed a supernatural theory. Say a Confederate soldier in the heat of battle just lost it and ran. As a coward, he would know that he would not be welcome back with his troops. So he came upon this cave and took refuge. Maybe he lived in the cave awhile. But at some point something or someone forced him to move deep in the cave. There his torch or candle went out and he was lost in the darkness. Of course, he soon died but his spirit was entombed in those caverns. So what my brother picked up in that photo was the spirit of a Confederate soldier...looking...searching for an exit...for peace that will never come to him. That's our theory anyway.
