In Illinois they have a law that if a teen is caught smoking they can be issued a ticket and have to pay a $100 fine for underaged smoking. My nephew is 16 and was fined a few months ago. He still hasn't stopped and my sister had to pay the fine, because my nephew blew his paycheck already. It hasn't stopped him from smoking and he still hasn't paid my sister back. I don't think raising the price will stop kids from smoking. It will stop adults who have bills to pay, house payments and children to support though! If the price goes up here in California I will definitely quit. It's too expensive. |

Congrats! it takes real will power to stop smoking. I want to, but it's just so hard. I think it wouldn't be so hard if my hisband didn't smoke. I'm not sure what the most expensive price per pack here is, but the cheapest is about a dollar ten. |

Well here i generally pay about $2.70 a pack. Or if i get to the smoke shop i pay $1.60 for cheap smokes that aren't too bad. My limit is over $3 a pack. Alot of places around here have smokes over $3. I just go to the next place untill i find them cheaper LOL. |

Well, the prices for the brand I smoke... NewPort is about $5 right now. I agree, the price won't make much of a difference. I remember when it was like $2.50 and I thought that was alot...LOL |

Here in Washington they are right around $5 dollars a pack... I'm currently trying to quit. I don't think I would spend more than $5! Cloudfire |

Right now where I live they are $6.00 and something.....It is a big price to pay..They were up to almost 7 dollars a pack at one point in time. I don't think it matters how much smokes are.....If a teen wants them they will get the money for them...It wouldn't matter if they cost 11 dollars a pack.....they will get them.....Luv Ya!!! |

hmmm I always said I would quit when they reached two dollars.... well that didn't work! they are 4.31 here for generic... but the reservation sells them for 2.05..... I think we should be taxed like there is no tomorrow!!! If I had to pay that much well, I would probably try harder to be a non smoker. |

something that i find odd about the idea of cigarettes, is that smoking was once seen as luxury, and mostly the upper class (ie. scott fitzgerald type) and now . . . the stereotype is quite the opposite (being a smoker, i am completely tired of being treated like i am dirty ... :P ) and now, the prices go up to try to stop it . . . . i just think its quite the odd twist .... hmmm.............. |

I know what you mean 44850. I go to the library in the mornings sometimes and I smoke before I go in and it seems like all the people who are outside waiting for it to open with me move away. One time this guy gave me a weird look and said "smoking your life away, ughh". |

lucky for me they are still just over $2.oo a pack. But since I have been smoking for 20 years I wish the prices would go up to $10.00 a pack.. maybe then i could quit. Starting smoking was the worst thing I have ever done and I pray everyday that kids never start. |

I am the only one in my family that doesnt!!! i am surrounded by it and they second hand is worse then first, luckily for me my boyfriend doesnt smoke and u cant smoke inside work so i dont smell it there eiter, that bad part is that some smell diff and i noticed when my mom changed her brands because its getting so expensive. My brother tried to quit too and he just doesnt care right now, but later in life he will want to but it will be too hard then. Good luck to all that are trying to quit, Just think about how fresh your breath will smell when you kiss someone and how your hands clothes and hair wont smell like smoke. How wonderful the difference is.. hugggs and licks :P |

Smoking stinks...but I do it, hoorah! Anyway, in the good ole state of MI, it's about $3.50-$4. If the price EVER gets to $7, that'd be it for me. And the high prices won't get teens to stop, please, they ARE the big spenders in America. Why do you think everything is marketed to them? They can always get Mommy and Daddy to lend them cash and most can make more than me working at McDonalds. What else do they have to spend their money on? I didn't start until I was 18, lucky me, but I know some who started at 10 and 11. Maybe the parents should keep better track of their chillins. That's how I never got away with it...just a thought ~*~Lievout~*~ |

WOW. When I started smoking (at 15) cigarettes were only $1.10 tax included. Now I buy them at close to 4 bucks a pack. I always say when they hit 5 i'm quitting. I don't think so. I think they'll be 5 bucks real soon, and I'm not ready to stop. 'Razzles' |

depends on how high they raise the price. i think that's a good idea and it could work. Oh lord, my friends would so kill me if they found out i said that.lol. I don't smoke but all my friends do. Needless to say, I did try them and i about threw up, they just taste nasty to me and i refuse to do them. |

I'm also the designated driver of my clique too. i don't drink either. in lamons terms my friends call me the group goody goody. *rolls eyes* I'm sorry if I actually perfer to smell fresh air instead of inhaling alcohol & smoke. Just doesn't seem to appeal to me very much. |

That's expensive! I don't smoke, but I don't think they should be that high. It's partially due to a failing attempt to get teens to stop smoking and also greedy lawyers sueing tabacco companies. Because of new laws tobacco companies get taken money away from them for anti-smoking commercials on tv. Those commercials aren't cheap so that's where some of the money is going. I think that's wrong, I say let the people smoke with out litteraly taxing them to death. |
