Which looks more elegant a long or short prom dress....

My niece asked me to help her pick out her prom dress so far we have not agreed on anything.I think a long dress is more apropriate for a prom, but yesterday she kept picking up these short skimpy dresses that to me did not look like prom material.I think she should go for the more traditional look you know long dress with a split up the side, but maybe fashion has changed maybe traditional isn't in anymore what do you think. Date: 3/13/2002 8:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 14572    *NOT moving around too much.....Jeeze I should have proof read that sorry
Date: 3/13/2002 8:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 18527    I wore short dresses to homecoming and a long dress to prom
Date: 3/13/2002 8:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 15394    I wish I had asserted myself more and worn what I wanted instead of what my mother wanted for me. I wore a long one, but wished I could have been me in one of those nice looking short stylish numbers, after all it was MY prom!
Date: 3/13/2002 8:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 49459    I personally went with a long dress. I wear shorter dresses to other things like banquets and weddings. I guess both are fine though. RlaurenC
Date: 3/13/2002 8:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 25390    Most of the ppl at my prom went long. to me, it's more elegant
Date: 3/13/2002 8:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 25438    No long dresses are still appropriate for Prom...short dresses for V-day and stuff. If she wants to show some body, there are ways to do that in a long dress..
Date: 3/13/2002 9:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 44321    My senior prom gown was kinda long in the back and midcalf in the front I loved that dress but me I like long for the prom ,for our ring dance I wore a short dress.
Date: 3/13/2002 9:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 50994    i think a long prom dress is more approriate for the prom but, it is her prom and people these days have been wearing skimpier and skimpier things everyday, so maybe u can comprmise, find a medium length dress that goes down to the knees or somthing
Date: 3/13/2002 9:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 43911    I would have to say prom is DEFINITELY a long dress occassion....i don't remember a SINGLE short dress at mine....prom is about long beautiful flowing gowns....everyone looks at the dresses at prom!
Date: 3/13/2002 9:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 41977    You have plenty of comments all of which are good. I agree that long is more elegant, but teens will be just that, teens. Don't let it be too skimpy because of the "suggestions" made by the dress on a special night. Good luck to you and I'm glad it's not me having to say no, no, no.
Date: 3/13/2002 9:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 17275    I still think the long dress is the best and they do have some lovely styles out!!!
Date: 3/13/2002 9:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    LONG! It is always the more elegant choice.
Date: 3/13/2002 9:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 30575    I'm a teen an I prefer a long dress
Date: 3/13/2002 9:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 24856    There is elegance to long gowns but if she is built cute a short one would be just fine. I truly believe you should dress according to how you are built.....
Date: 3/13/2002 11:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 45446    I think a long dress is more elegant.
Date: 3/13/2002 12:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 46139    Thanks everyone for your comments I plan to let her
read everyones comments and then she will see that
I am right.I think short dresses are best suited for
other occasions definantly not a prom.On this particular
night she is suppose to wear something she doesn't
normally wear she has beautiful legs so naturally
short dresses are her thing but hopefully just this
once she will take my advice....OSHEN

Date: 3/13/2002 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 277    I wore a short strapless dress to my prom. But, other girls wore long fitted gowns with a slit up the side and it was traditional, but very elegant looking. I wore a long ones to a few other dances though. I never did what everyone else was doing.
Date: 3/13/2002 4:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 19173    I think long dresses are more elegant.
Date: 3/13/2002 4:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I wore a long dress, I personally think they look more formal. I think short dresses aren't elegant enough for prom
Date: 3/13/2002 6:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 41067    Well, a long dress would be more elegant, but a short dress can be just as stylish.
Date: 3/13/2002 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 7089    i hate dresses (& skirts) in general, but i do think long looks a lot more elegant for a formal-- certainly not micromini --& seeing's my dates wouldn'a been caught dead in the dress it was up to me to wear it if i wanted to go...i wore my sister's old dress to both formals: pink satin, strapless, ankle-length at the back & knee-high in front, came w/lace gloves & jacket, which i wore to my second formal. cheers,
Date: 3/13/2002 8:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 50504    Compromise...a short dress with a train. Cute. New trend? Socrates
