I think God trys to get our attention before we fall face down. It took me falling face down before I finaly asked for help. I know it did not have to be like that, but I was very stubborn. |

I have to disagree, i think people just need to find something to believe in, to feel better. I have been suffering from depression for 9 years now, and where has god been. and i dont need people preaching to me. they see im depressed and say its because i dont believe in god. well thats not true. |

TEF, you are probably depressed because of psychological issues. Not religious ones. I also think that people do exert control over their own behaviors and actions...and maybe sometimes God cannot step into certain problems, maybe not at all,....maybe not even in 9 years. It's just a weird thing, I guess. :) |

Good Question!! GOD is and always has been with all of us, WE don't realize it until our weakest moments. I don't think depressed people make up a God just to make them feel better. We have only one GOD, he comes to us in many different ways depending on cicumstances I believe. I am thankful that you are saved and you know him, and if depression is what brought you to him, then embrace it for you are far better off with him, than without him. I don't think in Gods eyes it matters how we get to him as long as we get there. People who are depressed and truly want help seek it, they are searching so I can understand why the psychological issues and religious beliefs are studied, it does make sense. I'd like to know if there are any pschologist who are also pastors, and what there thoughts are on this, and what connection they seem to think is between the two.

TEF, I wish I knew what to tell you. You are right, we do need something to believe in. I chose God after everything else failed. I do not think I would have if I could have found help from something or someone else. I am not ashamed to say that because it is true. |

1st I'd like to say that everyone has a different interpretation(?sp) of the Bible & what God's "rules" & plans are.In my opinion only, I believe that most people who SEEK OUT God are doing so because of depression or hard times. That is what commits them to Christ because they find out all that He is capable of & what He can do for/in their lives. I would think that would make your relationship in Christ deeper & more meaningful. Most of us are raised in church & stray from His Word or we take for granted His awesome powers. But, again in my opinion, the people who are SOUGHT OUT by God are the luckiest. Of course I may be biased because that is how it happened to me. You're @home, church, revival, whatever..and the Holy Ghost just sweeps over you. You accept Him into your life & try to live the way He wants. |

I don't know what's with me tonight, I'm not understanding the posts:P I'll try to answer my best tho:P Uhhh...I think that people come to him when they need him, but they don't just come to him to solve their problems...psychologically. He's real, and when you come to him in a time of need...you feel that feeling that makes you know he's real. Am I making sense? lol I think I should go to bed:P |

Persistent depression, lasting two weeks or more, could indicate the need for medication. It is my understanding that depression results from a biochemical imbalance. It is not primarily a spiritual problem. If people have high blood pressure, they take medication to help their heart; if they have diabetes, insulin helps their pancreas; if they are depressed, they should take medication to help their brain. God does lift people's spirits, but He has also given us a sound (balanced) mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Use your balanced mind to get help. |

sorry , I didnt mean to just say nope, I found Jesus at a time in my life that I really didn't want to find Jesus. I mean I was partying, having a blast and certainly didnt want to find something or someone to change that. But I did find Him. The thing is when I was depressed, when life was unusally cruel to me, I walked away for a time. I blamed God. even tho it wasnt his fault, I thought that it was. Two years ago, I walked back to Jesus, Knowing that throught HIM was the only way that I could find the peace that I needed. He tells us, " I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." Amen and I for one am glad that He didn't. |

Depression lends a certain chemical imbalance to your brain that is very inviting for the "god feeling", an effect that scientists have recently located. |

It's certainly nice to know that God can be credited for all the good things in one's life but not blamed for the bad things. Seems hypocritical to me. So if something bad happens in my life then it's my fault. But if something good happens it's God's doing? I don't think so. It's just a way of placing responsibility on someone other than yourself. "The Devil made me do it". LOL! |

Insane asylums are filled with religious people; people who were brought up in strict religious homes. Most of the most miserable people I've ever met and know; are very staunch christians. When people want and need answers; REAL definite help, and the more they ignore and supress those questions that leads to INVESTIGATIONS and discoveries; thus knowledge and WISDOM; the more this breeds a sense of deceit, secrecy, and doubt. When one bases their whole lives on "faith" alone, they're in for some troubled and depressive times IMHO. |
