USM Mediators Do WE NEED Them?

I've never had a problem with anyone on this site, but I just read a disturbing post. The author states there is alot of fighting amongst different authors on this site. Which brings me to my point. Should the admins appoint mediators to settle disputes. Their judgement would be final and binding if everyone involved wanted to continue on this site. I believe these mediators should be at least 18 years of age, maybe even older. Other requirements could be based on length of time on site, with a review of their posts and replies for proof of character. What do you all think? Would it solve some of this fighting?

Date: 4/1/2002 8:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 20750    yep! Admins do it!
Date: 4/1/2002 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 10915    I feel that no mediator is needed in some of the disputes. If others can let go of their pride and just let a situation go and stop bringing things up when situations have died down and the person has moved on to bigger and better things, then there would be no need for a mediator. Plus, they also need to stop assuming that everything you say and do from that point on is meant as a personal attack and not have to put up lame posts to compensate for some sympathy when the person isn't even thinking about you at this point. But then again, maybe the idea of a mediator isn't a bad one.
Date: 4/1/2002 8:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    I thought these mediators are admins? lol I dont think age should matter...we have admins who are under the age of 16 i belive...
Date: 4/1/2002 8:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 10915    I do have to agree with the other commentors. The admins are the mediators of this site and they do a very good job of it. Amen to admins!
Date: 4/1/2002 8:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 29216    I think that's what the admins are for, but I have an idea that came from yours. What if we had a mediator section where people could volunteer to mediate and we could go in there and deel with our disagreements.
Date: 4/1/2002 8:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 28190    We do Have mediators hun.. :) Click on FAQ and you will see under admins who they are :D They are wonderful people and do what they can to help in any event especially when there is a dispute :D *huge huggles* Love, Amanda
Date: 4/1/2002 8:31:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49150    I thought they were busy with other things. I hope I never have to disturb them with a problem. I should hope I am mature enough to resolve my own issues.
Date: 4/1/2002 8:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 51393    mediator is always neede in every aspect it is almost like having elders keeping us intact besides without their hartedly intent to keep the peace I believe this site would have never existed.Sometimes even a younger individual could or may have a better yield than our sense of direction.more power to the Administration lot of hugs
Date: 4/1/2002 8:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 18406    I think this is a great idea!! Sometimes the Admins have too much on their hands and can't really take the time to settle disputes so they just end up kicking them out of the chat room or send them a message in their box. And I think it would be great to have peer mediators you know?
Date: 4/1/2002 10:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 277    I don't think so, absolutely not. If mediators are appointed and used then that is just showing the community of usm that childish behavior is tolerated. The arguments should not have to be taken that far to need a mediator.
Date: 4/2/2002 5:28:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49150    Hawk, If only people could be that mature in reality, the world would be a wonderful place.
Date: 4/2/2002 7:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 277    See that's the thing though. I'm sure theres a lot of people here that don't feel usm is reality and that's why they don't act in a mature way about disagreements. In real life consequences are more of a reality. Here at usm they know they'll just get a warning.
Date: 4/2/2002 8:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 1631    Only if the mediator were unbiased. I don't see that as a possibility around here I guess...
Date: 4/2/2002 9:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 277    I didn't think about that one, Ali. Yes, an un biased usmer...hmm....I think that would be hard to find. They would have to pull a new member for a mediator and cross their fingers that it's not oan old member in disguise..LOL!
Date: 4/2/2002 9:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 1631    LMAOOOOOO Hawk!!!! Amen to that...
Date: 4/13/2002 1:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 36098    boys will be boys.
Date: 4/13/2002 2:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 49150    ain't that the truth. lol
Date: 4/13/2002 5:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 23101    I am agreeing with Rainbow Angel.. The Admins are the mediators of the site. And chatmins are the mediators of the chat room. And monitors are mediators of there category. Pretty simple. Thanks for posting! XOXOXO
