I just wanted to let everyone know about this. Today I got an email from someone that looked to be an official from AOL telling me that I need to visit the billing center and re-enter my credit card information. When I clicked on the link it took me to a page that looked like an official AOLl site.. BUT it wasn't.. I looked at the address in the address bar and it said www.angelfire.com// something. This is not an AOL site... so someone was trying to scam me.. The first thing that tipped me off was that the email was not blue like all other offical mail from aol.. Another thing is that it wasn't sent to my main account.. It was sent to one of my secondary screen names.. I just wanted to let all AOL members to be aware of this scam.. Don't give out your credit card info to just anyone.

Double check web addresses before giving billing info. !!!!!!!!!

Date: 4/9/2002 6:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 25046    Been there, done that...only I received an email from a site I am a member of. It just wasn't official mail from them. Shortly there after, my puter was hacked. The real AOL had to cancell all of my passwords and reset them.
Date: 4/9/2002 6:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 32070    Thanks for the warning. I would most likely have called them on the phone anyway if I had got that. *HUGS*
Date: 4/9/2002 6:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47734    I know.. it was scary.. b/c the email said that if I didn't do it my account would be canceled.. I'm glad that I realized that it wasn't really from AOL.. but some people may not pay that close attention to stuff. That's I am warning people. *HUGS*

Date: 4/9/2002 7:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 15033    Awesome information CaptivatingBoi, This happened to me about a year ago. I was sent an email from a music site I am a member at, and it said I needed to resubmitt my credit card info. When I went there, I put it all in and then it went to some strange site immediately. I called the card company and canceled. Not a moment too soon! Be careful people, he is right about this. Love to you,
Date: 4/9/2002 7:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 16069    AOL scams people too.
Date: 4/9/2002 7:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 19382    As AOL tell you. They NEVER email you for your credit card information EVER. They will call you or something to that effect. They NEVER ask for information of that nature via email and tell you to NEVER beleive those types of emails.
Date: 4/9/2002 8:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47734    UPDATE:... My freaking buddy list stopped working on this account.. So I had to get in touch with AOL Fraud Department.. I had to change all my passwords.. What a pain in the neck.. Well It's working now.. Thank God. *HUGS*

Date: 4/9/2002 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 10534    Thanks Captivatingboi for the warning. I got one that said I received a gretting once, and it took me to the AOL greeting page (well...it looked like the aol greeting page, but it wasnt) and it said I had to re-enter my password. WELL this was a long time ago, and I was stupid, and I did put in my password, then it sent me back to the AOL greeting page. I was like "okay...where's my greeting" and then i realized that it was fake and that no one would want to send me a greeting anyway, so i changed my password. haha they didnt get me! my friend also got that same scam too. grrr
Date: 4/10/2002 2:02:00 AM  From Authorid: 30747    Something like this happened to me before too Cap but I didn't fall for it and reported it to aol. Thanks for the info. *big momma soul hugs* love...
Date: 4/10/2002 3:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 46486    I know, I used to get mail like that, sooooooo annoying!! But you will only know if its AOL if their e-mail is a BLUE ENVELOPE.
Date: 4/10/2002 5:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    Always, always look for the blue envelope if the envelope is not blue I do not even open it. The delete button comes in real handy.
Date: 4/10/2002 6:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 47734    I know.. I don't know what I was thinking when I opened it.. I just I just wasn't thinking. LOL.. At least no real harm was done. =)
