What is Wicca? For claritys sake, I will use the terms Wicca and Paganism, as well as Wiccan and Pagan interchangably. Paganism is a very VERY old religion, dating back thousands of years, back to before ancient Rome, even before Stone Henge (which some believe was built by ancient druids). Pagans could in a sense themselves be called "Ancients" since thats what their religion is, ancient. I will be focusing more on Wicca in this post, since most on USM are Wiccans and not Pagans (There are a few slight differences). There is absolutly no way to describe exactly WHAT a Wiccan/Pagan believes, but maybe the FAQ I've prepared will help. Myth: Pagans worship false idols Fact: In general, Wiccans/Pagans worship a God and a Goddess, the Goddess ruling the moon by night, and the God ruling the sun by day. They are, however, like the Holy Trinity, one in the same (or so the majority believe). Wiccans and Pagans belong to a type of religion called "Earth Based", so called because their worship centers around nature. Myth: Pagans are devil worshippers and bow to Satan and offer him babies and blood sacrifices Fact: Let me say this one last time, Wicca and Paganism has ABSOLUTLY NO connection to Satanism, Devil Worship, Lucifer, or ANYTHING else evil. The majority of Wiccans don't believe in Satan, so how can they worship something they have no faith in? Myth: Wiccans/Pagans use black magic to harm others Fact: Wrong. Anyone who would do such a thing is just a common magic user, NOT a true Wiccan or Pagan, as both groups are forbidden by their own laws to do such a thing. Myth: Wiccans/Pagans worship trees and the Earth Fact: To an extend, we do. We view the Earth as a sacred gift from God that should be treasured and revered. Myth: Wiccans/Pagans deny Jesus Christ, Jehova, the Bible, and all things Christian. Fact: Absolutly...WRONG. A lot of us own and read our Bibles and more than one Wiccan will bend a knee in Jesus's direction and acknowledge him as Son of God, born, crucified, and risen. Myth: Wiccans believe ONLY this, nothing else. Fact: Wiccans/Pagans are perhaps some of the most religiously versatal (sp?) people. There IS no set doctrine or way of worship. It is 100% up to you. Some Wiccans pray to Jesus, some pray to Diana, some pray to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, some pray to Jesus and Mary, its endless. The most wonderful thing about Wicca is that there is no "set in stone". All Wiccans/Pagans do have some things in common however. They all (I say all, because all I've ever met do) worship God, not their God, or your God, but OUR God, the only God. You will never see an athiest Wiccan because it simply doesn't exist. Also, all Wiccans/Pagans live by the "Harm None" policy. Meaning you won't ever catch a group of them beating up people. We are not allowed to hurt anyone, nor or we allowed to try and convert others. Your religion is your choice and NOBODY has a right to try and change it. I hope that this helps out a bit, because I know there has been some confusion in the past.
