I see a pentacle and think of the 5 elements. I think that people are blowing things way outta proportion. And that if you are to judge someone at first look is something bad to get into. You can not always get the complete jist of a person from just what they look like, are wearing, etc. And i would like to find out why someone would think it to be evil. From my understanding of Satanists is that "Lucifer was sent for hell for trying to Improve his rank, and fighting the monarchy" To those that i have just offended i apologize. this is just something i have heard from a friend who is a Satanist. Personally im a Wiccan, and i think that anyone should be allowed to belive what they like. As long as they do not bring down another persons religion.  |

If I saw some one wearing a pertagram in my town I more then likely tackle them , because I think I've met all the Wiccans from where I live  And I would like to add that an up side down cross is the proper Satanic symbol, as Satanism is closer to Christianity then Wicca is...  |

good question and facts...I would actually ask the person what the symbol stood for befor eissuing any silent judgement, which is a natural human function...I have never noticed the difference in the way it's positioned though now I will be Thanks for some useful info~SpaceCase  |

When I see a pentagram my heart seems to jump. I don't know why. No offense to any of the wearers of the pentagram. It's just that maybe my knowledge of what the pentagram stands for gets me scared.  |

these are very honest answers...and yes, technically satanism is closer to christianity because of shared doctrine. For example Pagan's do not believe in a satan. Or demons, or hell. Satanists, the self-styled ones, use christian symbols as part of their rituals. So, the recognize the same god, they just choose to worship satan, instead of jesus christ. |

Christians and Satanist both believe in the Christian god and the opposite of God, the Devil, Wiccans on the other hand, don't believe in the Christian god or the Devil.... Space case, by the simple fact that to wiccan Satan is nothing more than a mythological figure of christianity (and I am talking about what I know from the wiccans I know) and he does not exist in their religion makes it closer to christianity. Stan exists in christianity, and does not in wicca, therfore it is closer to christianity.  |

the problem is....they have bought into the stereotype of what our symbol means. Maybe someone can provide some obscure Ancient History, that will enlighten us all how this symbol was associated with evil.Mayne the Romans slaughtered Pic's & carved this symbol on them. But of course, that is not true, I was simply making a point. I cannot, for the life of me, think of any reason WHY this symbol should be associated with "Evil".I am willing to listen to ANY reason, and open an intelligent discussion on the subject, without being belligerant, I really want to know. |

RuSure, I beg to differ, I can tell you the Pentacle does indeed have power. So does the penagram. The symbol represents all the natural elements & in the hand of a magickal practicioner, the elements can indeed be manipulated in such a way as to show "cause-and-effect". LSG..I guess I am just one of those who are not scared of ghosts,spirits,ouija boards,or anything made with hands which has a supposed evil. Nothing has ever harmed me in these areas,and I don't believe they will.So far,in my 50 uh,er years,I have managed to escape any harm..Maybe I am just too logic and/or non-believing for anything like that to cause me harm. |

I understand....I don't fear ghosts, spirits, or anything of that nature either. As a paranormal researcher, I have encounted many, many spirits. I own several ouija boards & other tools of divination. I do not fear the dead. The world (seen & unseen) is filled with Magick! And it's just waiting for people to learn & be educated properly. I think the pentacle is no different than the cross but of course it has been taken and made to look 'evil'. But if we look at it as evil because of the media, I think we should look at the cross as evil as well.  |

I think of the Pentagram or Pentacle as just a symbol..much like the Cross..It represents a part of the Wiccan belief system like the Cross represents a part of the Christian belief system..I will admit though that before coming to USM I knew NOTHING about wiccans or witches..To me they were just characters in some stupid B rated movies..LOL...I have learned a great deal since coming here though  |

I believe the God of the Bible is Soverign of the Universe and is not one to be mocked. That's what I think Satanism does and that's where I think you find your similarities. I agree, some so called "Christian" religions have picked up and incorporated pagan doctrine into their worship. That's why you see so many Christian religions practicing different things. I can only guess as to the reasons why. However, I know that my God, the God of the Bible, is a jealous God. And I know that in order to worship Him in a way that He approves, I must worship Him in spirit and truth. And when you don't believe in the Bible or in Satan, than it's kinda hard to find a common ground (i.e. Christians believe in Satan, Wiccan's don't). So here's where I'm coming from. Obviously the pentagram symbol means something to Wiccans and Satanists, both use it. As to the significance and its orientation, that also means something to each of the respective religions. As a Christian, the pentagram means absolutely nothing to me per se. So when I see a pentagram I see a symbol that represents a religion that is different than mine. And, since Satan is my enemy, when I see a pentagram (regardless of its orientation) a red flag goes up. Also, I found this and maybe you can shed some light LSG "Occultists the world over believe that, once a symbol is created, it acquires power of its own, and more power is generated when such symbol(s) are created without the profane [uninitiated] knowing about it. And, the greatest power of all is created in the symbol(s) if the uninitiated NEVER discover that the symbol exists". Question to you being, and I know you cannot speak for the Satanists, but: Is this true of your religion? Does this symbol somehow generate power or something else? And if yes, then what can we expect the symbol to manifest? There, I hope I said it so that you can understand what I was trying to say. I am more than familiar with Morrigan, and the Keys of Solomon. (I wonder how may people know that Solomon was a master magician & incorperated a lot mysticism in his Royal Court?) Morrigan is one of the many names that is used in Celt Wicca as a name with which to address the Goddess. This is indeed our sacred symbol. Not all magick is performed withon a pentagram. Not all Witches practice the same way. I will tell you one thing, we do NOT fear the spirits who visit us during our ceremonies. The circle is not for protection, the circle is for s "magickal place" for the spirits to feel comfortable & to enclose the energy. |
