It makes my heart ache, as I scroll through the multitude of posts here, to read of so much contention and conflict. My heart goes out to those who experience the negative remarks made by others, not meaning always here, but in life in general, in reference to their looks, clothes, family life, religious beliefs or lack of, and the list could go on and on. Perhaps it is because I am older, and hopefully a little wiser than when I was younger, that I can speak from the voice of experience. We are all special in our own unique way. Maybe we have lots of freckles, acne problems, some weight to lose, imperfect teeth or clothes that come from the second hand store. That does not make us inferior to others who feel they have the "perfect world". I grew up as one of five children with a father who served 23 years in the military. Now, anyone who has a family member in the military knows the pay is not that good; matter of fact it downright stinks. But, we never lacked for food, shelter, clothes, or most importantly, love. But, we were always treated as "different" because we didn't have the name brand clothes or the fancy car. We didn't have a lot of friends, but we had our family bond. That was more important. We were fortunate to have a mother who was able to stay home and be a full time mother and homemaker. Our dear mother has many "jewels in her crown", as she lovingly cared for our brother Jeff for the ten years he lived as blind and retarded. He never walked; she carried him. He never fed himself and was never potty trained; she cared for his every need. When he would have seizures, she would lovingly stroke his head and arms until his body calmed back to normal. What did we learn from our parent's examples? We learned among other things about compassion, love, survival, making do, that God lives and we are His children and that we ALL are special; Everyone of us. No matter what our race, beliefs, social status, grades, bank account balance, each of us has purpose and responsibility here on the earth. So, when we think about "dogging" or criticizing someone, please, let's think twice. We are not all the same, but we are all precious in His site. America has been through the worst of times and come through it united. We need to keep it up and work together for the common good of all. We may need to borrow food from our neighbor tomorrow. Will they open their door to us? Have we been courteous to them? Something to think about. It's not over. Listen to our leaders. Ask our military.
