I was just wondering something. You know how incense is usually named with Pagan names, and have a lot to do with Paganism (at least that is the impression I get) ? Well, is it wrong for a Catholic to burn incense, just because it smells good?

Date: 6/17/2002 7:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    The three kings are reputed to have brought the baby Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh. Frankincense has been burned for thousands of years, previously it was believed that the scent would repel illness and pestilence.

Date: 6/17/2002 7:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 46527    If we are questioning the fact that churches should not burn incense due to it's ties with Paganism then what about the 'Maypole' celebrations. Almost every church in the UK has a maypole, I am hard pushed to think of a more Pagan ceremony.
Date: 6/17/2002 8:07:00 AM  From Authorid: 36965    No! Of course not! It's only for ceremonial uses if you want to use it as such..think of it as air freshener! :) Im Pagan/Wiccan but I grew up in a Christian family
Date: 6/17/2002 8:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 36965    The Maypole, as well as the Christmas tree, and MANY other Christian traditions deerived from Paganism..

Date: 6/17/2002 12:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 10534    I don't think it's wrong..Hehe
Date: 6/17/2002 2:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    I dont burn them. and the ONLY reason I dont burn them is that I can find any "smells" that agree with my allergies. They all clog me up.
Date: 6/18/2002 6:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 10146    I have some Frankencence and Murr, and they are Incense. I do not burn them only because they remind me of the Gifts that was given to the Infant Jesus.
Date: 6/18/2002 8:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 42940    Personally the incense that the Catholics burn smells atrocious. I don't think there is anything wrong with burning incense per se but I have heard it has some "pagan" or as I like to think of it alternative meaning. *** bad kitty ***
Date: 6/21/2002 9:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 14314    Incense was one of the presents for Baby Jesus:):) I´m Catholic, and I burn incense, just because it smells good:):):):):)
