Well.. I'm not deeply religious and border on the athiest side, but I have a theory on your question. I think that the entire concept of heaven, hell, and God, was created for 2 reasons. The first reason I think, is to keep people in check with hopes of being rewarded with heaven if they're good, but giving them motive not to be bad also by saying they'll go to hell if they're bad and don't obey God correctly. The second reason is that people need something to believe in. When it comes to questions of the after life and how we all came to exist as well as when you think about people's fear of not being looked after in life, I think it's easier for many people to openly accept the idea that there is one God who controls you... who keeps you from unimaginable harm and rewards you for being good. It's really wonderful to be able to believe something... it's like a fantasy that is widely accepted because you can't fathom the idea of it not being true even though there is absolutely no proof of its existance. I guess that's why when you ask questions like "Does hell exist?" they can only answer you with the yes answer... it's what they believe but cannot prove, but the curiousity to prove their belief weighs far below their need to believe. |

I dont know if this makes sense but anyways.. Im relgious but I dont have a firm belief. To answer your question someone could just reply it has to do with FAITH and thats all they would need to say cause the definition of faith would be enough of an explanation for them. Personally, I wouldnt waist any faith I have on something that could cause an eternity of pain to an innocent. Love and hugs, |

Alot of people have found it easier that everything can be explained simply because "the bible says so" and they dont have to sit down and use their brains to actually THINK about anything. Not all people who follow the bible are like that, but many are. |

I'm not religious so I guess I'm not one of "you people", but I'm also not really sure what your question is. I did notice that you capltalize randomly tho. Is there a reason for that? Just curious. Peace, |

Why do you have an automatic assumption that ALL believers automatically come to belief in Jesus for some reason other than careful study? Each individual requires different levels of proof. Some don't require much proof at all, others, like myself, required very careful study over the course of many years before concluding Yeshua Ha'Mosiach was truely the Son of God, just as He said. I did not come from a Christian home, nor an atheist home or a Buddhist home... God was simply irrelevant to daily life growing up. In college I was a film major with a history minor. I took a world religions class and became very interested in the role religion played in shaping world events. I began to study the major world religions (I've read the Qu'ran twice, most of the Upanishad texts and a few of the older Vedic texts [the Kama Sutra was VERY interesting], and have read selected passages from both Talmuds, and numerous Rabbinical Midrashes.) I systematically studied each religion, and I studied Christianity next to last (I took the Abrahamic faiths in chronological order.) Hinduism is nothing but a series of fairy tales; Buddhism as a philosophy is brilliant - the height of human thinking, as a religion it falls flat on its face; Shintoism is simply a means of keeping control on family structure; Tao, like Buddhism, works better as philosophy than religion; the Neo-Pagan movement is repackaged New Age-ism; Wicca is feminism spiritualized; Islam is truly filled with contradictions. (And yes, I know I'm going to be blasted for making these statements - you asked an honest question and I'm giving you an honest answer. Grant me that.) Only Judaism and Christianity are historic religions - supernatural events occured in our time and space, with theological ramifications, and left evidence of their occurance that can be checked and verified. You can go to Jericho and see the walls that came tumblin' down; you can go to Wadi Sidri in the Sinai desert and see the graffiti left by the Hebrews as they marched through on their way to the Promised Land. You can go to Jerusalem and see the empty tomb. Don't stereotype Christians my friend, many simply do not need the level of proof you think it requires for belief - for that they will be blessed. But for someone like myself who needed to see before believing, Jesus said "Seek, and ye shall find." If you stop seeking because you don't completely understand or don't like what you hear... Peace, Tom |

...And so the age old debate goes on and on. The only tidbit I can add for fear of being blasted would be: For the skeptic, no explanation is good enough, for the believer, no explanation is necessary. You can take it either way. Benzman |

Two words Tandris - Alan Alda LOL! (There are plenty of men who call themselves feminists in the political sense. Stands to reason some would be attracted to a spiritual side as well, just as there are lots of Christians who began their look into Christianity after being exposed to politically active Christians.)Peace, Tom |

Ok, I have no idea who that is, but I'll take your word for it. I don' consider it feminist though, within the Wiccan faith all are equal, both God and Goddess are worshipped. There are some things that are more feminin, and some things more masculine, but all are held to be equal in nature. In my path anyway. |

Wiccan is basically an offshoot of the feminist movement. It is no coincidence that Wicca began in the 1950's as the woman's liberation movement began in earnest. Few self respecting men are wiccan. JMO. Og |

Good point esp chick..... Right now we are safe to believe whatever we want to believe... But what about then???... What about that inevitable time in our lives when there is no more time to change our minds? Whether it be judgement day or our own death... There will come a time when there will be no more time, no more time to change our minds... Right now we feel safe, because we know that we can always change the way we think, if the need arises.... But what about that time at the end of our time, when there is no more time to change our ways... What will we do... What will we do..... There is always tomorrow.... Or is there???......... |
