I agree with Pyrial, maybe you should claer out your temporary internet files and your History folder and defragment your hard drive. To do this (if you dont already know how) go to tools at the top of your window ( its on the line with file, edit, view, etc.) and select internet options from the menu, then click on "deleat files" in temporary internet and "clear history" in history. To defragment your hard drive(if you have windows 98, if not try it and it might work. (This is how I do it) go to find and type in welcome, click on the welcome to windows 98 (should be the first file to pop up) and select maintain your computer and select perform maintenance now. It might take a while to do if you havent done it recently. You should shut down the internet and other things you are working on before you do this.
