A dark cloud of misery misted my eyes
The pasted on smile was a practiced disguise
Though my voice was steady, underneath I was torn
The pain in my emotions was a hidden thorn
Blind to everything, I walked the streets silently
But inside a storm of emotion raged violently
Then movement in a window caught my glance
And I turned and saw a kitten's playful dance
Before I told my feet to keep walking
My heart told my mind to stop talking
I walked into the shop and knelt on the ground
Watched this tiny kitten without a sound
Something in that moment set my heart free
As it stopped for a moment and looked at me
A tiny white face with blue eyes so sweet
A tiny gray tail and playful white feet
A simple little mew came after a while
And I felt my lips curl up into a smile
And when a tiny paw came up, brushing my cheek
Tears down my face began to streak
It turned away and resumed it's playful game
I stood after a moment and left the way I came
But the storm that had been raging in my mind
Had calmed, and my eyes were no longer blind
For in an instant they had seen innocence true
In the eyes of a kitten and in it's tiny mew
My step was lighter, my smile this time real
The simple touch of a kitten had helped my heart heal
