I remember around the age 7 or 10.. During them years my dad was drunk and let me take a sip.. It was gross... So even I don't care for wine.. Someone offered it to me, I'm like heck no. |

My mom used to let me have brown cows (rarely) Ive let my kids taste also. I think you are right about not keeping it a big secret. |

It makes perfect sense. I don't think your parents were wrong for letting you have a sip. My mom let me try a cigarette when I was younger..NEVER AGAIN..LOL I don't know what's so pleasurable about them. I've also had a sip of vodka in OJ..I didn't know there was vodka in it and once I took a sip I booked it straight to the bathroom. I highly dought I'll be drinking once I turn 21..LOL |

Actually I do... My mom did the same thing with me. Although she has never been a big drinker, but it taught me early that I DID NOT like the taste of it, and the only thing that I have had since then that I even liked was White Wine, but only a glass at My Brother's Wedding reception.. :) So, yep, I think if it were different than that, I would probably be drinking person.... *huge huggles* Love, Amanda |

Hey, same thing worked with me. I hate alcohol. Way I see it theres only one time to drink- If you're in insufferable physical pain. |

I agree with you. When I was 4 I remember my parents letting me have some champagne. And growing up I drank O'Douls sometimes (non-alcoholic beer). And now that Im 21 I dont really drink. It defenitly has an effect when parents dont make it seem forbidden. |

When I was younger my Dad smoked and he asked me to light his cigarrette. Well he saw me looking at it funny. I wondered what it was like and he told me to go ahead. Well it was the grossest thing I ever did. He said "remember that"!!! I will never smoke after that. Infact I have never had the desire to even see if I would like it now that I am older. So I think that that is a good way to teach your kids that it is a nasty habit. :)BabyCry |

I think it was a good idea. It let's you know that it doesn't mean you are all grown up if you drink. And it let's you know that you don't like the taste of it so maybe you won't try it lol. And your parents drank responsibly so that makes you want to be responsible too. |

well alotta parents let thier children have sips of alcohol, so they know it's not a "forbiddin" drink and there is a time and place for it... it also makes you realise it's not a great taste*L* and you don't wanna go out and drowned yourself with it... alotta kids do because they can.. and they cut down once the truely grow up... you just always had a mature look towards it.. your not the only one who doesn't drink much if any.. i don't drink either! |

It reminds me of the Dads who force their Sons to smoke a cigar really fast after they catch them with a smoke. The nausea tends to put them in their place pretty darned quick! I think that your parents did a good thing and you benefited from it. Thanks for an enlightening post! |

my dad was an alcoholic, and my mom was a socail drinker. they let us have a try when we were younger, and i did drink with her after i turned 21 a few times, but i dont really see the glory in drinking. you act like a moron and do really stupid things. there is just no point in it. but, yes i agree with you, it is ok to teach your kids early, and not make it a forbidden thing because that will only make the kids want to do it that much more. kOzzmic_K |
