Well this could be because you have 'good feelings' towards the things you like okay this is kinda in a post I just posted tonight but I will try to exsplain it. Okay lets say your favorite animal is a cat... Y? Most likely cuz as you were younger you had a good exsperiance with a cat... Maybe the reason you don't like dogs cuz they are scared you when you were younger or maybe you had a bad exsperiance with a dog. When your younger you are more open minded more likely to try things as you get older you have most of you dislikes and likes figured out. This may help you I hope it does. Favorite song.. to tell you the truth I like the music my brothers listen to and what my parents listen too when I was younger this is what I became a custome to listen too if you half to put with something for soo long you kinda just start to like it in a way.  |

perhaphs it is like this: whitch is my favorite sensation, a massage or hitting my thumb with a hammer? hmmm... that is a tough one. or perhaps this one: which is my favorite food? this is a tricky one. a rare steak or a well done one? while a rare steak may have some bad germs or sickness that a well done steak hass killed off the rare steak also has many more nutrients that a well done steak has burnt off; also personally I prefer the taste of a rare steak. remember taste is akin to smell and a flower almost always smells better than a sewage dump. I hope this has answered your question as to why we have favorites. no offense if I soundes a bit sarcastic but I have found that people have an easier time understanding exagerated remarks before applying it to something "closer to home" as the saying goes |

First off, I never usually rate things, but this gets a GREAT! I think this question is really neat, and will bring it up w/ some of my friends. Now, I will tell you what I think: First off, as I've recommended about 50 times, read My Ishmael, the sequel to Ishmael, By Daniel Quinn. it explains to what depths we go to to have our favorite everythings. It stems from this: Every day, we are faced with choices, and in a world like ours, where we have access to just about anything, we must choose. For instance, what use would liking everything do you when you went to a restaurant? lets say you go to Contena's Steak Hut, and all we serve is T-Bone steaks. and, to make things real easy on ya, we're the only restaurant within 100 miles. (sucks, don't it, welcome to small town in Illinois) anyways, when you walk in, you can have, rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, or well done. (I think those are the choices..) well, for the sake of arguement, you will not have a favorite and come to the restaurant 5 different times and order one steak each time. Favorites are decided on that 6th time, when you have tried everything and must now decide which one you liked the most. ta-da! a favorite. and when the waitress comes out to ask you what steak you would like, you must choose, "medium well" which is exactly the same as answering, "my favorite steak out of these 5 is the one cooked medium well" and be done with it. eh, i think a lot of people have gottten you wrong. and i understand what you're saying and i agree. i think favorites exist so that someone can have something to put their energy into. if you have a favorite song, you learn it and sing it and whatever. just gives something for people to do ehehehe. =) also i think it adds to their identity. i love cats, they are my fav animal. that says something about ME as a person. it tells what kinds of things i like. i like quiet, cute, soft things... that's what ithink. i also think that most things, you should just be open to. sometimes i feel like people think you HAVE to have a favorite something...so it's kinda stressful when you don't. so i think we should all be more open. and not feel like we have to choose. =)  |
