Oh, we'll go out tonight, under the quarter moon,
Dance these worries away,
Let the good times roll, ease your troubled soul,
Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulette

(Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulette - Bob Corbin)

************************

JEZEBEL: Tell us about yourself...

LA SORCIERE ROUGE: I am 37 years old and have red hair and hazel eyes. My real name is Val. I am English but have lived in Northern Ireland and Germany in the past. I speak French and German (and a little Swedish and Dutch) and love learning languages. I love the way it enables communication with people from other countries and cultures. I am a French teacher and work both in a high-school teaching French and run my own business teaching French to younger children at after school clubs. I also work with emotionally and educationally challenged kids in my school. I often do private tutoring in Math, English and French Grammar in the evenings. I have 2 sons aged 15 and 8, both of whom are members here (Hades and Le Petit Rouge). I have lived with 'Farleys' for 3 years and we are getting married this August. We have one dog, loads of cats and a number of fish. My younger sister 'The Cute Kitty' is also a member of USM. I spent 7 years of my life suffering from agoraphobia and being too scared to set foot outside the door, I have now beaten this and do not allow it to interfere with my life.

J: What brought you to USM?

LSR: I was visiting 'Stile' (Farleys brother) and saw him looking at USM on his computer... I signed up and was addicted within the first 5 minutes!

J: What kept you coming back?

LSR: The interaction with other users, being able to help those who have problems, and laughing with friends. The fact that it is a g-rated site which forces politeness and the use of proper language. I love the concept of having a USM family too, I have sons and daughters and brothers and sisters and nieces etc that I never dreamed of having and I like it a lot! I also have a sweet USM momma and a lovely mom-in-law. The main reason I keep on coming back is that USM has so many wonderful members.

J: Do you have any favorite subjects or groups on USM? What do you like to participate in the most?

LSR: I love a good 'cage rattling' debate! I quite like the USM games; in fact I tend to win so many of them that Kiki has nicknamed me 'the Queen of USM games!' I like those silly posts that start off sensibly and then descend into a riot of different conversations. I am rarely to be seen in 'chat' as the constant movement of the tags makes me dizzy! I love the religious section as I love to learn about all religions.

J: Ever had a paranormal experience?

LSR: The night my mother died she definitely came to visit me as she passed over. I felt a wave of incredible calm in the room, the feeling that you get as a small child when your mother comes to sit on your bed when you are ill or having bad dreams. She played a few other tricks on my sister and I over the next few days too. My sister and I were cleaning the house ready to receive the visitors after her funeral. We had cleaned the front room thoroughly, when suddenly, a wooden fork (the sort you get with take-out fries) dropped from behind the radiator, we both saw this happen. We had always joked with our mother that she was too much of a lady to eat fries with her fingers; consequently, she always carried one of these forks with her in her purse! To drop this thing on us now was just like her sense of humor! No more was thought of this....until a few weeks later. My sister had purchased some second-hand easy chairs; her mother-in-law had cleaned them thoroughly for her. One night my sis was sitting watching TV when she slipped her hand down the side of the cushions, what did she find? Yes, another wooden fork! I also had a resident ghost when I lived in Nottingham in the UK; the houses were built on top of an old Napoleonic tunnel fort. He lived in my dining room, my cats hated him and my friends refused to visit after they had 'felt' his presence, but I was rather fond of him, it was good to have company in the house.

J: Tell us about your website.

LSR: I have a number of websites. My 'work' sites consist of 2 sites on the French language and 1 site with JavaScript games in French accessible through one front page; they took me approx 300 hours to write and are still growing! It was worth it though as they are used in homes and schools all over the world. I also have a personal site which gets rather neglected as I rarely have the time to spend working on it. My personal site has poetry that I have written along with a lot of pictures by my favorite artist Boris Vallejo. I would post a link but some of the artwork is not g-rated and for the sake of the younger members I do not think it appropriate... and no, it is not accessible through my profile!

J: If you could do anything to improve the site, what would you do?

LSR: I like the site as it is, the news of petty fights sometimes amazes me as I am either incredibly unobservant or sleeping at the time they happen... I never seem to notice any! The only category that I would like to see added is one where members could post true-life experiences that are not really suited to the discussion section. True life experiences are not always things that need to be discussed; sometimes they are the sort of thing that just needs a category to be posted in to enable one to share them with others.

J: Do you have any role models on USM or in real life?

LSR: I would love to be even half the woman that my mother was; she was kind, gentle and considerate. She always put others before herself and encouraged even the slightest successes that my sister and I had as children. She was always ladylike and never raised her voice when she was annoyed. She was the kind of person who won respect and love from all around her simply by being herself.

J: Do you have any anecdotes or advice you'd like to impart or some words to live by?

LSR: My favorite quote is: "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly." Advice to live by is that the answers to all your questions and problems are inside your head already, you just need to know how to find them.

J: Finally, what would you do if you were a ghost?

LSR: I think if I were a ghost I would have a lot of fun. I would watch over my kids and keep them safe when I could not be with them and I would visit my family more often. I would be dreadfully tempted to scare a few people that I do not particularly like but I would do my best to behave myself and refrain from this! I would probably satisfy my need for mischief by scaring my cats occasionally! Most of all though I would like to be that comforting feeling in a room that makes one feel safe and contented.

*****************
TRES BIEN! I know I was genuinely impressed with LSR. She answered so openly and honestly, and it really reached me. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Thank you so much Val, it's good to go out on a high note :)

So allow me to segue into that particular note and tell you that I'll be on hiatus for the next three weeks. Yeah that's right, THREE WEEKS! woo hoo! In the meantime, feel free to partake in the plethora of the "Best of WUSM Interviews". Go crazy! This is Jezebel, homeward bound and on the road again. Thanks and see you soon! (fade)

Date: 7/19/2002 1:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 58022    That was so intersting! I love it how on USM you are just known by what you tell others about yourself, so sometimes they assume that's all there is to you, but really there is so much more that you normally would never and could never find out about them. If that makes any sense.
