How does one know how much courage he or she has?

I have gone through life avoiding conflict when I could. Being hearing impaired and young I drew conflict like a magnet. I had heard that it took more courage to walk away from a fight knowing how immature it is. I go to movies now much older, and see the opposite. I like a lot of men walk out of a theatre feeling taller like the hero in a movie. Tonight, I had to stop and think,is it couragous to solve proplems peacefully? I had to wonder if something real happened that was life threatening to me and to others, how much courage do I have? Would I bravely lead or sit hysterically crying that I was going to die? I do not know the answers to these questions. The reality is the majority of people are far more coragouse than I. I am refuring to people who manage to make friend easily, find a woman to marry and have that marriage to last years and with children that respect their parents. It takes courage to do that, a courage to trust, honor, and be able to be loved.

Date: 7/18/2002 11:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 47166    It's not so much that walking away from a battle is courageous, but standing up to the situation is. He is far braver who is struck and turns the other cheek, only to be hit again, than is the man who pounces on his assailent in the goal of ceasing the pain he recieves. *shrugs*
Date: 7/19/2002 12:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 30200    i think that every1 that is here on this earth that is alive when they could have easily takin the other way out is very courageous.living life is the most courageous thing any1 can do as there is nothing harder or scaryer than life>M.J.L.
Date: 7/19/2002 1:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    I agree with what Iseman said. Living life and doing what is right is brave. It is easier to take the "low" road and yet taking the harder but righteous way is more rewarding and courageous! I think this ois a great post.

Date: 7/19/2002 1:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 21867    Gotta agree with Penny...nothing good comes easy...true success comes through hard graft...putting in the work, struggling and crawling...then clawing your way along if you have to...thats bravery, battling on when all the odds say you won't succeed. Bravery is seeing the mountains and barriers ahead and not backing down...that feeling of satisfaction of achieveing what others say is impossible...the feeling of accomplishing what you yourself might doubt you can do...overcoming all - even ones ownself is true bravery. "The hottest flames temper the strongest steel" Peace,
Date: 7/19/2002 6:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 58730    I think what u are referring to here is more confidence in yourself, rather than actual courage. If u r confidant that u can lead and make friends then there is no courage required. On the other hand if they are things u find difficult (introducing yourself to new people and leading people) then courage is used until u have the confidence to do it with ease.
