it really irks me when authors delete for no reason other than they have the power too....I only delete if the reply is hurtful towards myself or the others on the post or it's just plain rude and doesn't follow the guidelines, ya know the way it SHOULD be done. hmmmmm if it wouldnt be a difficult thing for admin to do that wouldn't be a bad idea at all I don't think :D....  |

I have only deleted comments from my post once. But trust me it was well deserved. I don't think anyone should delete the comments of someone expressing their views or just replying. I remember this one time It really ticked me off it was a riddle I had replied to. I made some comment to the effect *without stating the answer* 'I never would have figured that, I thought it was ______________ *fill in the blank I don't remember what I said*' the author deleted the comment I confronted them on the post as I knew people had seen my comment and were commenting about it too....her reply was that it had 'gone off the topic' hmmm ok *rolls eyes* |

Hi Midnightly, That is a good point. However this young lady removed three of my comments and the comment of another author. It wasnt an accident. I know my comments are not always well recieved by people of differing viewpoints but I was sending along a link to a story I thought she may enjoy. You see whats scary is that if she gets away with it then she will brag to friends and they will start doing it and very quickly it can get out of control and a lot of people will get upset. How do we stop this abuse, perhaps by removing the privalege of the abusers would make it stop pretty quickly. Just a thought. Thanks for replying. Bye for now. Enki  |

I think that they should have it taken away. These people put stories on here and want replies but they have to be replies that they agree with. No one wants to be told anything but their opinion. Well guess what people, if you don't want to hear other points of veiw..."Don't post your stories for people to reply to" I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you not once but twice in a short period of time Enki. I think it was really nice of you to take the time to reply to their stories. You know, of course, these would be the same people who would whine and complain if they didn't get any responses at all to their stories. Sorry for your bad luck but I hope you'll keep on trying. I knew of one older usmer that is no longer here, used to think she had to delete her comments so her post wouldn't get messy. Then she wondered why nobody would reply to her stories any longer. I think we learn eventually who's posts to not respond to again since they have a problem with comments anyway. Good post Enki!  |

I know which story you are talking about because I replied to it earlier, maybe the reason you haven't gotten any comments for a while is because she has not been on for a little while now, I'll just have to see if my comments get deleted as well. As far as the delete button, It is there for a reason and I think the people who abuse it and cause nothing but trouble and anger out of people should not be allowed to use it. People ask for our comments and they should all be left both good and bad, unless it is something totally off the wall and negative and has vulger and stuff.  |

Wow! Very interesting question, Enki. I have an idea but am not sure if it would be possible & would probably be too much work. I think it would be a good idea if they were given a warning or even a "3 Strikes, You're Out" rule so that after the 3rd warning they no longer had the priveledge of deleting comments to their posts. I don't think this would happen anytime soon but I do think it would be a good idea & 1 to think about imposing sometime in the future. :o) But in the meantime maybe there should be a rule that after 3 warnings that the person can no longer make any posts for a week or for some other set time-period. I mean if that is possible. Then if they do it again, make it a month & so on. Gosh Enki! This is a hard question! LOL But another good 1, Hon. :o) I'm sorry your comments were deleted. Hi Enki! I, for one, am very hesitant about deleting comments. That's not saying I've never done it, though. I think, in many ways, people do abuse the privelege of the delete button. Don't they know it's akin to censorship? Still, there are times when comments absolutely have to go...and times when posts themselves have to go; just ask the administrators. People who are kind enough to read my posts are rarely deleted. I am an adult and respect all points-of-view, no matter how much I disagree. Someone could argue that arsenic doesn't kill, and I'll still listen if it's done in a calm, rational, or even humorous way. However, I can't stand jerks in any case. I've learned also to be watchful of people who delete comments too easily...they are usually the same kind that will burn books and imprison "subversives". I stay away from their posts because I know that I have no free speech there.  |

I HATE it when people delete my comments for no reason,I think I've only deleted one comment from a post of mine,and that was because it was a double post,and its WAY off topic,rude,cusses,a double post or something like that I can understand that,but when they just get delete happy,then I think they should be msged,if they dont explain why they did it,they either warn them,or take away THEIR ability to delete comments.  |

Ya know what...I agree with on this Enki. I myself have only ever deleted replies which have been nothing but abuse (and foul language)...which is very rare thankfully. But yes, I've noticed some seem a little too delete happy...anything that doesn't go along with what they hold as truth soon gets the snip. Hi Blue Moon, I quite agree. Censorship burns me. Its akin to no free speech, yet at the same time there is a need for it to a certain degree. Being a monitor is sometimes tough because You sit there and wonder on occasion if You should let this one through or not. I've had to make borderline calls sometimes and it leaves You wondering if You made the right call. Book burnings the like is just unacceptable but that type of behavour often starts out with censorship. Basically censorship is the suppression of thoughts and ideas and controlling them so its a control mechanism which flies in the face of freedom and is freedom not what our countries are about and what made them great. The delete button is fine, if it's used in the proper way, which is to remove rude comments. However, I have seen it misused. I think the crown for King of Delete should be given to Range Rider (even though he's no longer here). His favorite trick would be to delete your comment, but reply to it as if you'd said something else (usually something offensive or stupid). I have a candidate for the Queen's position, but since it's someone still on USM, they shall remain nameless. I'll tell you what I usually do. If I think my comment might be unnecessarily deleted, I save a copy of it (if I haven't done this, I hit the back button till I find it). Then I just repost it. Sometimes it's necessary to do this several times, but if the author of the post is just being a dishonest by not wanting all different opinions, I find it's worth the trouble to continue pasting in my original reply. Or, if someone is posting in discussions (or another catagory) just so they can dishonestly delete, I will sometimes cut and paste their story into debates so that the other side can be presented. I find that I don't get deleted too often anymore, LOL. I wonder why?  |

Hi Ali, I understand Your thoughts on this but I disagree with the no button deal. Heres why. During the school year a lot of the Young folk all come on around suppertime. A lot of the admins are picking up the kids from school or preparing supper or they are on thier way home from school themselves. This is the most vulnerable time of the day for USM. Few admins around and the plac is filling with kids coming from school. If some punks jump onsite and leave vulagarities on a bunch of stories the chances it will be caught quickly by an admin are slim and that is where having the button is of great benefit to the authors,,, plus it saves lots of time to just have the author take care of the problem. Its a privalege that shouldnt be abused. I also agree with what You say about people grooming thier story to make themselves look good, that is just palin wrong and people like that are soon found out. Thanks for dropping in. Bye for now. Cheers ALI...and ya know what...I'm gonna pay you a compliment here - so don't go getting a big head about it or anything - LOL! But I read one of your posts today and I totally agreed with it. I really miss the times when I first came here...and peeps would argue a point...no holds barred...you are SOOO right, those arguments often lead to peeps getting to know eachother better. For instance, when I first came here me and Debbie (Firstborn) just butted heads something wicked...full-on knock down drag out arguments over religion...but ya know what...Debbie and I became good friends and she has my total respect now...coz we got to see where the other was coming from, totally KNOW their point of view MINUS all the fluffy covering. We can't seem to do that now. And in a way I miss it. And it just peeves me off totally when I see peeps who are just basically nasty to the core still hanging around, yet good peeps like Gail etc have left because of it. Sure, thats their choice to leave and I respect that...but it ain't fair and it TOTALLY fries my onions. Thing is I said on there that if I take time out of MY schedule to reply to HER story then she needs not delete it. But You know what, I visited a couple sites that are serious and adult orientated, by that I mean politics and religion and it gets boring on a steady diet of that stuff. We would still be at USM just for the sheer variety of topics and the gentleness of the people. Its hard with just serious stuff all the time. And Im problably one of the most serious people here. LOLOLOL!!! You wanna talk about Firstborn!!! She was my number one enemy at one time...it made my blood boil just to think about her name! Same with Dizzy Me...now? Well, I love Deb to pieces, and Dizzy and I get along just fine. And I used to butt heads with Thunderhead pretty bad, too-and she's my USM Sister now-and the best one anyone will ever have. And to this day I still get into some "nasty" debates with people...and I can't help it! Once you get me going I just can't stop until you at least acknowledge that you've seen things from my viewpoint...not that you have "agree" just see....lol. Although there's one person here I could never be friends with again...and to think-I never even fought with her. |

Hi Perse, in all honesty the comments that were deleted last week between me and the women from Florida really puzzles me. I do not know who deleted them but the thought did cross my mind that they were removed by someone other than the author because of the topic. Basically the topic was pertaining to CIA wrongdoing and I cannot fathom why we cant discuss that. Isnt the site for all people. I tried contacting Ginger for clarification about topic matter but she hasnt gotten back to ma yet. It may also have something to do with the new laws that Bush passed and being critical of Govt. etc. Face it free speech is getting more and more limited in the USA. Man I really got to talk to Radman and Ginger on new govt. laws. Its something we got to look into to protect the site. It would be a shame to get them in trouble for posting that Bush is a bad guy. Really Enki, she really did erase the comments and she had been here for a month before I came and I told her she had to keep them as she had responded to her own posts alot too. How I know is it was my sister. My older sister. LMBO! But I have had others here delete even innocent comments and still others ask for advice and when you give it, they beat you down and writes posts on how rude the comment was. So I won't respond to those peoples posts any more that are delete happy. I also think your comments are rude in any way as you are getting your opinions across politely. So, to the delete happy people, they are missing out on some good commentors! LOL! Their loss! |

Good Morning Perse, I wonder if You have run across any of the new laws and regulations that have been enacted in the Patriot act or the homeland security bill. We have all heard of these new laws but does anyone know what they contain? I ask because in an article I read on Friday it said that one of the laws which is already in effect is that Your not allowed to criticise a sitting president,,, or one that is drunk and falling down and choking. Good Morning dark Crow. It puzzles me as to what happenned. I was not offering up much opinion, it was actually a comment with a link to a story about a group of pilots who got together to brainstorm for a few days and what thier conclusions were about the 911 incident. The 2nd. comment was to Osiris, the 3rd.comment was aksing the person why she removed the comments and Doono also asked her why and she deleted his comment as well. I decided to nip this practice in the bud by reminding these people that abuse of the delete feature could possibly lead to removal of the delete button. Hopefully they will think it through and cease this annoying practice. Imagine the harm if this practice of deletion was picked up on by a whole lot of folks. Best to nip it in the bud. Hi Eet. I disagree. The delete button is there to remove insulting or threatening comments. If people think its there to remove just comments they dont want then the discussions and debates are going to turn into one sided viewpoints and this will further reduce the willingness of readers to post comments. There is already a shortage of comments on the site and if people think the button is to be used to groom thier stories to thier favour then nobody will be posting comments for fear that they are wasting thier time. Communication would be lost and I think that would be harmful to the site. Bye for now. Enki |

I so agree with you, a few weeks ago a girl asks for help about her being in love with 2 guys. So I was very nice and I replied to her telling her what I think I should do. Then I go back to the post and she deletes my comments for no reason. I messaged her about it and the same thing happened she didn't bother to answer me back. I saw your comment on the 911 thing, I read the article you gave, but I can't understand why that comment was deleted either.  |

Enki, I've been meaning to read these laws for myself. I'll definitely be checking into it. I'd like to eventually compile some sort of comparison-how our government is evolving from a capitalist republic to a dictatorship. That could take a while though...and probly get me thrown in jail :-p |

In my opinion, if the reply is not disrespectful it is pretty childish to delete it just because maybe that person doesn't see eye to eye with you. As an author a person is practically putting themselves out there therefore inviting a response, some negative and some positive, you have to be mature enough to take in the good with the bad, otherwise don't even bother posting. LOL, I might sound a bit mad but ignorant people like that simply get on my nerves.  |
