Hot Topic - anybody been to that place???

I think a lot of people have heard of the store, Hot Topic. I shop there whenever I can, which isn't offen, and I love it. I get all my clothes there, except for the pants (I get those at Delias -hey! They're cut well!). But anyway, I went shopping with my grandma. Boy, is she evil! I do not like my grandma. Read and see why.

Hot Topic boasts clothes for teenagers and young adults, right? Go on the website and you'll see that the models are in their late-teens, twenties. Ozzy's daughter is only a few months younger than me and you'll find her modeling, as well. So my grandma says that the place is for LITTLE KIDS! Ummm...excuse me, but she was just shopping at Claire's, which was packed with itty, bitty girls. And there were only teens and adults in Hot Topic. Just because the clothes are fitted, she right away thinks they're too small. And she has the nerve to call me big and tell me that I'd never be small! GRRRRRR!!!!

It was bad enough that she had to tell me lies about my mother. : ( She told me that my mother confided in her that I was only born just so she (my mother) can get attention. She gave me a weird look and said, "Don't you DARE tell anyone!" This made me suspicious, for it usually means that someone's lying, right? So anyway, I went and confronted my mother because I cried for hours after that. My mother never, ever said that. And my dad confirmed that she never did. My grandma's really...well, I can't say the word due to g-rating. But she tells me that I can't like cartoons, can't wear black, and can't act goofy, for I'm a "young lady" now. I have to wear pastels and be a little Martha Stuart. She even suggested that I go to a finishing school!!! Do they even have those anymore? Can we say...1950's? It's 2002! Again, I say, GRRRR!!! She thinks I should be a little pastel-wearing housewife. She says that I should be interested in boys and dancing. I'm interested in boys, but not the kind that she thinks I should be. I like musicians, artists, and goth boys. Oh, and some tall, dark, and handsome fellows. But I'm not into the corporate, average man. She is very weird. I'd go into some details, but I'm too embarrassed and I don't want to seem like I'm rambling.

If anybody knows how I can deal with this woman - she wants me to act like an old woman! - give me some advice. I have to put up with her tomorrow, unfortunately, for my birthday party. Please, give me some advice before 2:30 pm tomorrow! I'd really appreciate it, for she's such a you-know-what and I just can't respect someone like that!!!

Date: 7/20/2002 10:03:00 PM  From Authorid: 35720    Your grandmother is old-fashioned, but she is not the boss of you. Talk to your parents some more about how you don't like her attitude.
Date: 7/20/2002 10:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 19625    Well, for one thing, I don't think anyone, not a parent, or a grandparent or anyone should tell anyone else who to be. So you sould tell your grandma to take her pastel colors, and her dancing and stick it... ok nevermind, Just Kidding! Well you should just tell her that, that isn't who you are, and you like who you are and that should be all that matters. I think the reason your grandmother (I'm assuming she's on your mothers side) is trying to tell you how to be is because your mom didn't turn out how she wanted her to be, and she's trying to make up for it with you. I'm just shooting in the dark though. I hope everything works out with you and your Grandma. Erin-

Date: 7/20/2002 10:19:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 51070    She's my dad's mother and holds a grudge against my mom because of the divorce. It's been fifteen years - she should get over it. I'm over it, why can't she be adult and get over it as well? Makes you wonder...
Date: 7/20/2002 10:19:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i think finishing school could be quite amuseing!!soon she'll be saying it isn't proper for a lady to want to further her education.. don't listen to her*L* she is retro living in the past... do something outlandish next time she is around*L* reminds me of the time i went to go see my grandfather at his store with a fake nose ring and he took one look at me and said "is it real?" my responce was "does it matter" he didn't like that too much but it was priceless!!
