My son is 2 1/2 years old.Mind you this is not a thing i expect to happen right now, but i have decided to try it.He is my first child and no one in my family has a boy so i'm on my own.I would be grateful to any and all advice that you would like to share.I wanted to know (forgive if this sounds petty) did you train your son to sit on the potty for both jobs.He will not have anything to do with the big ppl's toliet.Only the potty.Which is okay except that well with a boy it never quite goes into the potty.I'm confused in the fact that family says i should train him to stand and aim, but i cannot teach him to aim.(I don't feel it appropiate to you know show him)So i find myself feeling like i'm going about it all wrong. He goes with me and my hubby (has me since he could walk LOL) and i try to show and talk him thru what i do.But the family has made me wonder if i'm confusing him on whether he should stand or sit.So i hope that someone out there can understand what this means.I believe all kids are different, and i don't feel that he will understand aim for the cheerio's.He does however know potty and know to pee there.Sometimes he does right as i'm getting his underwear down.I took him out of diapers for a little while and bought him some underwear.I was told he would be able to feel the wetness more and not like it.So how did you go bout this with your son on sitting or standing?Did you put him in underwear and do it that way? Thanks ahead of time for all your replies.Sorry if i'm in the wrong place to post.

Date: 7/31/2002 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 30421    Sorry but I have never potty trained a boy, so I have no advice. I hear that boys are alot harder than girls. Good luck!
Date: 7/31/2002 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 19460    first thing, sit him on the potty and remind him to push his thing into the toilet, if you catch my drift make it a game with him. Make a huge deal about anything he can manage to do bathroom wise. I will warn you that boys are nasty, and they dont mind wearing stinky clothes.Boys potty train when they are good and ready and they are quite sneaky about it. I worked and worked with my oldest son when he was 3 trying to get him trained. I found out he was using the toilet after i grilled the whole family about who was the smart alack who wasnt flushing the toilet. When no one fessed up, i went around the corner and there he sat, perched big as you please, on the toilet doing his business!
Date: 7/31/2002 8:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 5261    I don't have a boy, but did work at a daycare for eight years. So here's what I learned. First, it's up to you on the stand up-sit down method. We always trainded them to just get to the potty, and most of them did better with hte sit down method to start with. Then when they are getting a hang of it. Get you some cheerios, and throw them in the water, make it a game, have him "shoot" the cheerio. He'll have fun, and improve his aim at the same time. Just take it at his pace, and good luck! Hope this helps..

Date: 8/4/2002 7:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    don't worry so much about teaching him to "aim"... just work on getting him to "poke it down" when he goes... it gets too confusing when they are just learning to teach when to stand and when to sit... after they have all the mechanics of the deed worked out, you can work on teaching aim. I recommend NOT using pull-ups...they're just tapeless diapers. cloth is better and has much faster results. It sounds like your on the right track. Once you get the idea planted... it's the "timing" that presents the challenges..He'll start recognizing the signs that he has to go and get there in time. Good Luck! p.s. don't expect any poop to happen in the toilet anytime soon though... that usually takes quite a bit longer for them to give up
Date: 8/12/2002 7:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 38270    Sorry I have a girl...........Don't know but when I worked at a day care right out of high school there was a little boy who was potty trained at 2 years old and he would stand up but his mom was a single mom and she had to teach him everything (plus he had a sisiter) but he sat down to start out with and eventually he would stand up. He done it both ways. They learn pretty good. It won't take him long.
Date: 8/12/2002 8:08:00 AM  From Authorid: 30051    Hi! I am in training also my daughter is 2/12 too! But I have an 8 yr. old son And I advice to teach him to sit..Trust me if ya don't want your house to stink He will pee standing up as he gets older even then ya have to get on them to lift the seat..Grrrr!
