teen pregnancy

teens seem to be getting pregnant younger and younger.. and they think it's ok...they opened a daycare at my Sr high school...(it doesn't bother me that they opened it... it the fact that they NEEDED to open it because of so many teen mothers) i can't figure out why anyone would want to get pregnant while still in high school. Do children/teens now a days not see the BIG picture anymore? do they not see that children are very costly and VERY time consuming. it's very hard to hold down a full time job and take care of a child. You lose out on so much growing up when you have a baby young also, you don't get to be a teenager, you don't get to hang out with friends, no one wants to go pick up guys or hang out with a screaming baby in the room. Don't get me wrong there are joys to having a child... but your hardship is far far greater when you have a child young!.. i think more teenagers need to be educated about the dangers of intercourse and pregnancy.. and more people need to carry around those "baby think it over" dolls... if you young and think you want a child.... find a place that has one of these dolls and carry it around for 2 weeks...and talk to a few teen mothers it will help you with reality of what it's like to have a child

Date: 8/3/2002 5:48:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    sapphire if they do that they don't get the message....have you ever carried around one of thos ebaby think it overs?? they hook you up with EVERYTHING that you would possibly carry and you have to carry this kid EVERYWHERE you can't just toss it on a bed... it monitors everything in a little computer
Date: 8/3/2002 5:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 48993    I really dont think this is all about the "teen mothers" in my opinion alot of teen pregnancies occur because the parents of said teen didnt educate their child or pay attention to what they were doing ( not that teens can be watched 24/7 ) however ya get my point ..... I had my son 2 months before my 22nd birthday and I still wasnt ready for everything involved with raising a child and my husband has been here everyday with me and our son ... working 2 jobs and me working as well scraping pennies to get gas to get him to work for (at the time ) $6.50 per hour .... we are way better now and things are ALOT easier .... but we had to struggle soooo much ...the one thing that having a child so early in our life taught us was NOT to have another one ... why??? .... one is enough ... enough in the regards of a financial & emotional stress .... dont get me wrong we LOVE our son with all our hearts however it was NOT even close to easy and at times still a struggle and he will be 7 next month ... bottom line is WAIT !!!!! live your youth to the fullest ... have fun with friends ..... love marriage and children can wait !!!!! your only a teenager once ! live it to the fullest!
Date: 8/3/2002 5:50:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    m.man your not rushing out to have a child are you?
Date: 8/3/2002 5:51:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    it's great to hear someone who has gone through the experince of having a child before they are ready.. i wish more people would listen to you... thanks!
Date: 8/3/2002 5:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 53765    i do agree ... it's like teenagers still need care, attention and guidance ... so how can they provide it to a baby !! raising a child isnt an easy task. - The Lunatic
Date: 8/3/2002 5:59:00 AM  From Authorid: 49498    Nope. I tolda ya I see the big picture! No kiddies for me for a long time!!!lol
Date: 8/3/2002 6:01:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    m.man.. smart!!
Date: 8/3/2002 6:10:00 AM  From Authorid: 35720    I don't even WANT kids, much less NOW! LOL
Date: 8/3/2002 6:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 43502    i totally see your point but most of the girls do not intentionally get pregnant. you make it seem like all of them are like "ok i want to get pregnant". i know this because my sister is 17 and she had a baby.i think no matter how old or young you are before you have sex with anyone you should think of the consequences and think "do i really want to be connected to this person for the rest of my life?" but it all depends on the person. if they are immature and what not they are the people who shouldnt be messing around and having sex. but some girls are matture and responsible enough to take care of the responsabilities at hand. my sister is very responsable and she loves her daughter. she is a great mother and im not just saying that because shes my sister. when we tell her to go out and have fun and that we'll watch teh baby she doesnt really wanna leave her. and my sister is reurning to school and is becomming a nurse. unlike most girls shes still going to pursue her dream of being a nurse and shes still going to be w/ the baby alot everyday. luv-
Date: 8/3/2002 6:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 55689    Seriously, No teen WANTS to get pregnant, its not that they can't see the big picture...for the teens who are still studying and have a child, I admire them and it appears that they are trying to make up for the mistake of being carried away.
That's what I think

Date: 8/3/2002 7:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 25856    good idea, but i'd like to share with you that my school does the baby think it over program and my school district is also the one with the most teen pregnancies every year. on the cheerleading squad or whatever it's called, half of them are pregnant.
Date: 8/3/2002 7:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 54570    well no teen is really thinking when they do get pregnant. All they are concerned with is pleasure and love at the time. If these "mommies" at school were married that would be partially ok in my book but if not then where is the fathers. It takes two to tango. If they were taught (girls) at an early age or grade about abstinance and they said no like they were supposed to it might would help. But the guys dont care they are normally out at that age for an easy score. In the news there was a report of a teenager who left her baby in the car while she went into the mall. The child died within 20 minutes of being left due to extreme heat and all butu friends say that she didnt seem too distressed by it at all. All Im saying is educate. If they dont want it give it up for adoption. If they want it get married first and plan for it. SmoknJoe
Date: 8/3/2002 7:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 19460    this is very true! I was a mom at 17 and it was very hard and still is! we didnt have a daycare at my school, so after i got married and went back, my mom kept my son for me. the school allowed him to come to pep rallys and he really enjoyed that! we had a class for teen moms during study hall every other wednesday and it was nice to have support. but some of those girls had more than one child!!! that blew my mind!!! it was good that we could get together, swap baby items, and stuff like that, but then we also had to be ridiculed by our non parent classmates. it was really hard trying to read MacBeth, while rocking a colic baby!!!!
Date: 8/3/2002 8:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 13546    The thing is that they ARE educated, and they do know what they are getting themselves into. Sometimes things just happen. Most of the time, its not planned.. it was that one time, in the moment, they forgot to take an extra percation. IT happened to one of my close friends when she was 17, and her baby boy is turning 2 in a few months. And shes doing just fine.. *nods* I see the pregnancy thing coming up more and more.. but well.. how much more could you educate a person?
Date: 8/3/2002 8:37:00 AM  From Authorid: 48858    The reasons for teen pregnancy are about as varied as the teens themselves. Let's not forget the ones who just want someone to love them, or want to keep a boyfriend from leaving them, or the ones who were raped by someone they knew. Kids, now-a-days, know. I knew when I was a teen...I know now that I am 21 (god knows, I am in no way ready to be a mom). It is just like saying, well, people should know what could happen to them if they drink. They do. They just don't care.
Date: 8/3/2002 9:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 20069    to me, wanting a baby is because i want someone to care for and love me back..but i would never get pregnant this young
Date: 8/3/2002 9:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 50435    I don't understand the mindset of these kids. I remember about a month ago on Maury they had this 17 yo. girl who was on the show to tell her mom that she is pregnant with her THIRD child! Her first happened when she was 12 or 13. What is WRONG with these kids? Like Lievout said, there are so many reasons. I understand that a lot of kids WILL have sex in their teens. To think that your child won't is ignorant. Sure, they might not, but why take that chance? What has to be done is all teens have to be shown what actually happens when you have a child that young. Find people that have had it really rough and get them to make appearances...for a fee, of course. I'm sure there are a lot of teen mothers/ex-teen mothers that would be more than willing to share their experiences to help another teen be spared the hardships. There's so much more out there and sorry, but it DOES end some possibilities in life. I find a lot of mothers that had their children in their teens get all sensitive when I point that out however I've yet to be presented a good case that has made me consider otherwise. Hold off on the kids 'til you're ready. And some advice, so long as you're a teen you are NOT ready...
Date: 8/3/2002 10:38:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    thanks for all the responces... and to reply to some of them SOME GIRLS of 15,16,17 WANT to be PREGNANT and have a child!! at that young of an age!
Date: 8/3/2002 2:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    Those "take the electronical baby home" classes don't work. There are tons of pregnant girls at my school, now I'm not saying everyone who has children young is stupid. But the people I knew must have had an IQ of 2, they simply were the idiots of the school. They didn't even make it till the 11th grade, and that's when you have to take the class. The classes were a waste of time. Yep there is a problem with this, but I don't see a good solution to stop kids from getting knocked up.
Date: 8/3/2002 3:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 53659    ok heres the deal i was a teen mom but not because i ran around or my parents didn't care i was Raped!!!! i did keep my little girl she will be 10 this fall it hasn't been easy so please don't just lumps teen moms in one group i have other siblings and they were not teen parents i am sorry but i hate when people just say they are all this way or that cause it isn't true
Date: 8/3/2002 4:26:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    there are always exceptions to everything stars above me you were put into a circumstance where you said it was hard and you didn't plan for it to happen... i am not trying to offend anyone by this i'm just shocked at how much teen pregnancies have grown in the past few years
Date: 8/3/2002 4:28:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 53052    alien i'd like to see them teaching about birthcontrol in grade 7 and giving people lists of where to get it for free(not giving it to the student themselves BECAUSE that is a little inapropriate but saying if you want more info and you want some go here) there were fights in our school back home(grade 8-10) abotu putting in a condom machine in the school! they never did because the principal refused tohave it anywhere but IN the OFFICE
Date: 8/4/2002 5:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 50435    Rape doesn't count. That was something that was out of your control and totally not your fault. Don't confuse our critique of stupidity with your situation of victimization. Your case doesn't apply here. I don't know how you did it, but you are certainly stronger than most. Good for you, keep it up...
