The library is your best bet- it will have microfilms of all the newspapers for the area. |

start with the people (if possible)that you purchased the home from.also, ask the older ones who live around you.I lucked up on our home that i know is haunted. The old lady that owned the property before my husband and i brought it passed away the day we signed the closing papers. But she gave me a wealth of information. But as time went by,i like you wanted to learn more.so,I started to ask some of the older people that knew about the land, and my home.good luck, you will not be sorry.and i've gotten use to the fact that there is a kindly spirit that has taken up here, after all she lived here before we did.and i feel no threat from her.she(the old lady)tends to move things at times.(a lamp, clock,or take my pens)but other than that,we get along just fine. But agin, start with you're older neighbors.let me know how your search goes, sincerely jeanie/ |

Definitely ask the neighbors. Also go to the county clerks office. They have both all the tax records and all the deeds on file. Once you have some names, you can use census lists and cemetery records. Also, I live in a rural area and we have both a county historian and a town historian for each town/area in our county. Good luck with your search.

One of the best sources is to visit your local registrars office, that will give you the house ownership and most of the time goes back 100 or so years. Youll prolly find this dept in your local city hall, possibly a court house, depending on the size of town your in. Look in the phone book. It does mean having patience, it takes a lot of time to track down and read all the entries. Newspaper is also good if your looking for a specific event. Good luck. |

If you used a title company, when you purchased the house, their should be a chain of title that proves that you own the house. Try there. |
